King of Bling
First time MP3 post here...so there's a HIGH likelihood I'll screw it up.

3 songs:

(1) "Right Now" - It will remind you nothing of the VanHagar tune of the same name. Best Quality - It's short.

(2) "Bottle of Wine" - Best Quality, my 12 year old daughter singing on it with me...(I KNOW how inappropriate it is to have a little kid singing about wine, but she just sounded really good on it).

(3) "Our Song" - It's too damned long. I'm posting it b/c someone asked me to post an example of some a capella vocals...they are at the beginning...I wouldn't listen to much more of it if I were you.

Say anything you want about the songwriting or the mixes or the vocalist or anything...I've got skin like leather...but do not, under any circumstances, say a bad word about my daughter :)

Okay, there's the link...I don't know if it'll "link," because it doesn't look all blue like it should, but it should work if you paste it into your browswer.

Thanks

12??? did you say 12!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG! man, she has some pipe's!!

and your voice is perfect for this!!!!

i have nothing to say:( this is just good. perfomance, recording everything.

thank's for sharing this

peace

Right Now,- great recording and delivery.

Bottle of Wine, reminds me of ' love is rose, - so you better not
pick it', Neil Young, but BoW is Cool and original sounding, - credit to your daughter.

Our Love 2002, - great recording., though the slower tempo gives away the drums, -the fills are too precise. The guitars are clean and true and all three songs are so well recorded and performed.

..a pleasure listening..

Ouch!!!

Man, Rick...I know I said I had some tough skin, but did you have to be so BRUTAL???

I don't know how much more of this I can take...yeah, forget what I said about honest opinions...this is just too harsh.

:)
:)

Seriously, thanks for listening.

Listening to Bottle of Wine...
Nice. You guys should be stars. Seriously, get an agent. I mean you'd have to pull her out of school and all, but...

Good recording and very nice performances. NIcely mixed...sounds good on monitors. I liked the drum entry at 2:22. Brings it up that extra notch. You guys sound terrific together. Must be a great family...

Right now- Also very nice. It's not my genre so I wouldn't to give advice or anything. It sounds fantastic to me.

Think I'll download some for my trip to Montana next week. Good prairy drivin music...

Nice job,
Tom

Damn dude, I hate country music....but I have to admit this is really good. Some really nice changes. Very authentic...not too corny and not too folky.

Your daughter's vocals are really nice....kinda weird though, gives the song a little Jackson 5 flavor! :)

Slackmaster 2000

BAHAHAHAhahahaha

Slack...man, that's really funny. As soon as she sang the first two lines, I played it back for her, and her comments were:

(1) I sound like the singer for Hanson (line 1); and
(2) I sound like Michael Jackson in the J5 (line 2)

I guess she was right. Damn, that's funny. I'm sending your comments to her...she'll get a kick out of it.

Thanks for listening

Bottle of Wine is Excellent. You have a good voice and your daughter has great harmonies.....it's not very common for 12 year olds to have the concept of harmony unless they are born it, which she must have been.......she's too young to be singing about being wasted dude.:D:eek:Just kidding.;)

Really nice song that has a good hook....I was singing along within the first bar of the chorus....I'll check the other tunes out later.Good stuff.

Right Now is another good tune.It has singable lyrics and it has a nice melody.

Our Song is a like a flatliner to me.....It never seems to take off.......maybe a different bridge than the one that you have now would break it up some and make it NOT seem so damn long. .....could be the long verses....I dunno,at this point Im rambling.......you have a nice style of writing, playing and singing.......ok rambling ends..........NOW!:D

Good stuff! listened to all three-the vocals (both background and lead) were very good-I liked the songwriting too. Did someone say Michael Jackson lol?-I heard that. Hope to hear more from you -thanks for the tunes.

Kramer & Strat: I appreciate the listen...especially on "Our Song," because I know what a time investment it is to make it all the way through that song. I mean, if you've got a few hours to kill...sure, you can roll it once. (I tried to warn you).

"Flatliner"...reminds me of a dead cardiac patient...that's perfect.

Frankly, I'm a little surprised nobody has mentioned any bass problems...I don't have/use monitors (little tiny computer speakers & Radio Shack headphones), and I usually have HUGE mud problems.

If you're reading this, I take your silence to mean that there are no such problems...(and this is binding...like a contract).

:)

Ok, here goes:

RIGHT NOW:
Decent mix. It does sound like mono, so you'd want to spread it out more. Of course there isn't much to spread out, since there's so few instruments. If you can, you can always double track the acoustic. The song didn't strike to me as anything wildly different, but I appreciate the effort. You can sing and play :)

OUR SONG:
Umm... skipped because it's too long, or that's what somebody said anyway :D

BOTTLE OF WINE:
Good singing on both of you. Your daughter's vocals are good, but you've placed them too far to the right. I personally would have put them more on the center on the harmony parts, or maybe even put a surround effect on it. The mix is kinda the same as in "Right Now". 2:05 or something sounded a bit on the limits as far as the volume is concerning. Sounded like the compressor kicked in there.

Hello,

I listened to "Bottle of Wine" and was swept into the song in an instant.

I liked your panning of the git parts and the clean tracks themselves. The backup vox are perfect but, the placement gets too far out there after the second time they kick in. Maybe try bringing the backup vox in closer to center after every time they kick in ending at around 7% right.

I thought the lyrics and arrangment all but begs for an instumental break with a little git solo. You've displayed the chops with your nice fills. Let the song breath some with a modest and melodic solo around 2:08 or so (you know best).

NIce song, loved the gits and panning choices(minus the backup vox).

Got yourself some talented songwritting, playing and singing in that house:)

Peace,

Theron.

Thereon & Crank: See, THAT'S what's great about this board to me...specific instructions, right down to the percentage of panning and the timemark of a clip. Makes my "job" easy.

'preciate the input.

Listened to Bottle of Wine.

Man this is really great stuff, and singing with your daughter is too cool!
She sounds great!

Really pro recording.
The acoustic guitars sound very full, how did you record them?

The only thing I heard is the vocals seem a tad to loud in comparison to the music.
I'm listening on pc speakers,so take it for what it's worth.

I lived in Lone Star State for some years,(near the top),really nice country out that way.
That's where I learned to love and appreciate good country music, like yours.
Your a lucky man!

Best to you,
Pete

Since You Asked...

Pete: I record acoustic guitars in a really complicated way that I invented totally on my own after months of trial and error...

I plug my mic direcly into my soundcard and hit "record."

I'm not being totally facetious...I tried all kinds of things with my little Lexicon effects unit...external compression...heck, I even tried running one through a Roland Jazz Chorus amp that I gig with. At the end of the day, nothing sounds better to me than the straight shot. I usually try to play the same rhythm part twice (quite an accomplishment for me), pan one left, one right...and then I slap a little (key word..."little") verb on em'...then I cross my fingers and just hope....sometimes it works, sometimes...well, you know how it is.

I'm flattered that you think it worked this time.

chris

I think the acoustic sounds great on this, really huge!

You must have a good pickup,I have a ten year old under the bridge setup in mine, never had much luck with it.

Funny,I do the same thing, play the part twice and pan them L&R,I call it fake stereo.:D
Works pretty good,I think the little inconsistances make it sound fuller.

Best to you,
Pete
