I just wanted to give any of you who don't check the mixing clinc a heads up, that I posted a rough mix of a song...and also anyone who wants to come over and listen to it straight off the reel, I promise it sounds better..

Sounds great. Although I'd recommend using the RNC on your bass and I think the drums are either too loud or there's too much highs on 'em.

P.S. Do you think it'd possible to achieve the same quality on 1/4" (i.e. Fostex 80)?

Ah yeah, don't listen to others, there's enough reverb on the vocal :) One I've noticed about it - there's some distortion at 01:06

I'm sure anything is possible, just spend alot of time on your mic placement, ect, I try not to eq, which may or may not be a good thing. After I record a song I like to give myself a couple of days to just listen to it, and then all the imperfections start to come out, (like the drums being a touch on the high side) I'm telling you, tape is a great tool my friend...I really want to get some vinyl pressed at some point straight from my tapes. You just cant beat the sound coming straight off that tape...or at least with my equipment i cant...

Yeah, I'm going to redo the vocals today, I'm not to happy with my performance there, it was just the second time I had sung the song......Yeah the deep reverb is intentional, but I can see where it is a little strong for some

Lets see...a rundown of the mics and stuff

Vocals AT-2020
Drums:Catalina Club Kit, Rode Nt-5s OH, Sm57 snare, shure beta 52 on the kick
Acoustic AT-2020
Electric-Epiphone Valve Jr., Sm57 and Nt5 for a room mic..
Bass-driect from amp

I like it! I think the vocals kick ass. And you know there is nothing that has that cheap digital sound. Its Smooooooth.

for thoes who were wanting to hear a slightly better mix...I'm still waiting on a girl to come sing some harmonies, untill then this is as good as its going to get...i redid the vocals, turned down the drums a bit, really just one overhead mic, and use a slightly less dramatic reverb...

What stuff did you use the rnp on and did you put reverb on the Base?

The RNP wasnt used on this track, only the preamps on the 320b. There is no reverb on the bass, I wanted it to sound a little muddy....I did retrack it, and its first take was done in the same room with the drums, though the amp was in an isolation box, and there was extremely minimal bleed into the drum tracks, however that could produce that effect..

Sounds better now, although I'd make the electric guitar louder a bit. I'm listening in K240 and there's some spots where there's nothing but vocal and bass.

I have the 2020 mic like yours but havnt used it on much of anything and noticed how good it sounded on your voice. I guess I am going to have to get that bad boy out once in a while. ;)

I like the vocals better in this version, especially with the skirt harmony. Comes off sounding more integrated. The song is great too. Laid back. The mood reminds me of a rainy day. Very cool.
