Nak,
You've inadvertantly hit on a good line for a song "these last todays" obviously a typo fro two days but chance is a wonderful thing.
I'm downloading the song to listen & comment - from the brief predownload listen the intro is a little too Starcastle for YOU. The arrangement, or is it the tone?, sounds like it's meant for keyboards too prominent I think. The change begins well & now I await the download.

I actually have to agree with you fully.

It sounds damn clever:D, now If I could proove it wasent a typo:confused::D:D:D

I will use that for the next song I write.

Btw the tune is kinda experimental, so bare with me:D

Its written on keyboards:), so that may be the change of sound.
All keyboard parts were done first then guitars and etc.

These last Todays

Nak,
that explains the keyboardy texture to it & the Starcastle comparison.
I'm at about the 8min mark now. Some great passages - I do enjoy most the bits with the dirtier guitar & those occasional times you throw in a Brian may tone. I don't like the boppy/boogie outro - I know it's in utter contrast o the whole thing but it's begging for the BIG BNAG rather than a Flo & eddie deliberate ending.
mate, over all - fabbo!
This is KING PROG! the passages wax & wane as they should, there are some powerful moments & then pastorals too. All cool what is missing at present - & I know this is experimental & a work in prog(ress) - is some of you usual muscularity & bite. All of the tones are pretty mild so far - your usual stuff has, for example, a more defined bass with a bit of that proggy top (rickenacker) sound.
Did you program the drums? They need to loosen up & in some places be more disciplined in othes (yeah, I know : "neither a borrower nor a lender be") as there a some moments where the drums are either meant to be stridently busting up the flow or are just slightly out of whack.
I think the structure is really good - a journey - one I took happily & will again later tonight.
You'll need to add texture/layers to the vox in parts as well as occasionally burying the keyboards under MORE GUITARS for that dynamic.
In summary: WOW, can't wait to hear the next instalment!
All I want is one moment,
In these last todays,
Nothing left to say,
'Ere we part our ways,
One last moment...

Do listen!

Bumpity - thsi song is worth the download & 10 min listen so...
Do yourself a flavour boys'n'girls.

Thanks RayC, I`m at work Right now.
I just read your post real fast, lots of great input.
I`ll comment on it when I get home to my quarters:)

Thanks for taking your time to listen.:)

I'm listening now Naka..

I have no comment to make on the mix at the moment, as I am just enjoying this wonderful magical mystery tour, of progressive sounds, taking us to the edge ...flowing in and out, intertwining of dark intensity and forest enchantment...a psychedelic journey, with tommy, through the court of the crimson king... avoiding the Norwegian bitch queen, who is lopping off heads at her big tent revival, because the axe wielding apostle, alice, forgot to gather all of the styx for the royal fire...The crime of the century she shouts!!!! I close my eyes and the question comes to mind....are we still in Kansas you Norwegian bastard? YES!!!

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Lots of good stuff in here. Time warp city, definitely 70s prog.

Vocals need to be louder, even if this is an early version.

Musically, you have quite the conundrum:D I can relate, I've struggled with this every day for the past 37 years.;) You are composing music from 1972 in 2007. You could literally pass this off as some group's long lost tape from 1972, that in itself is a skill. HOWEVER, that in itself makes it sound dated, regardless of what year it currently is.

This took a lot of work. My only suggestion would be figuring out how to make it live in both the past and the future. One idea would be to use a modern soundset i.e. modern synths. This music isnt dead, merely on life support. Groups like Dream Theater and Spocks Beard still do it.

Classical composers do it. Stravinsky wrote very modern stuff. At one point, he went into neo-baroque mode, and wrote a piece called Pulcinella that sounds like it was written in 1730 ( he wrote it in 1930). However, every once in a while he gives you a reminder of what year it is by throwing you a curveball musically. He also does it with a more modern orchestration. Your orchestration on this is 1972. I am guessing that if you throw in some modern synths and a few concessions to the present, you can have the musical ideas from the prog era live in the now.

Well done, very unusual to hear something like this here.

This was just several Keyboard pieces to start with, then I got around to arranging it trying to get that red thread.

Btw soundwise this recording sounds very different than what I would normally do, the guitars were recorded in Guitar Rig.
I`m not a fan of the sounds, but its very need and effortless to get Ideas onto Hard-drive.

And thats a good tool to have when you got the patience that I have:o

Most of the stuff I make nowdays, I`m trying to get my band to play.

So this was an Idea on how things could be done.

I`m pretty pleased with the arrangment, the Guitars keys and Vox needs some work.
But it felt really good just getting what I had in my head down to audio.

I`ve had the Idea for some time just dident get around to record it.

I agree with you on the drums, I tend to simplefi it a bit now as I hope the drummer in my band will lay down something more classy.

The bass is also programmed as I dont own a bass at the moment, But I`m a huge fan of "Real", so hopefully it will be brought to life.

Thanks for the nice comments man, many exelent pointers:)

Damn I love the way you describe tunes:D

Ever thought about writing reviews for the Rolling Stone:D

Thanks for the nice coments True , I have to use you post as a press-slip if I ever release the tune.

Kansas Rocks:)

Thanks a lot for the Listen David.

I allways go for the retro sound, this is actually not my normal sound setup as my equipment is spread a bit all over the place at the time.

I allways end up going for that 70`s sound, both purposly and unconsciencly.
Most people that hear my stuff say, it sounds like something from that era.
And everytime I hear it I take it as the biggest compliment.

Not that I dont take your advice, your words are very true.
And many of today`s prog bands have created a very new great sounds.

But when I first heard my fathers 70`s records I was hooked.

I`m very much in touch with todays music though, in my work and with my friends.
But there`s just some thing warm and moody about music made from that time.

Its like on time I heard the band Muse; I really dug it music wise, I said to my friend the only nit I had with them was that it wasent from the 70`s:D

Thanks a bunch for the listen and comments man.

Thats supose to be a Benny hill movie ending , I guess I`m going for that Jethro tullish Humor thingy.
But theire british damnit and I`m not:mad::mad::D:D:D:D

Go the Tull ending - drop the keys & push the fulltilt folk boogie angle.
It's a very cool beginning & I want to hear MORE.

Good Idea Ray, Maybe some flute and Mandolin would do the trick:)

thanks man:)

Sounding pretty cool Naka....it is long....:D

I think it's got a pretty good structure to it....I'd like more guitar parts and less keys, but that's me...:D

Good job with the bass interacting with the drums.

Cool....

sounds very early STYX when they were more prog rock and less pop, with a touch of Peter Gabriel era Genesis.

The opening sounds a lot like Styx Grand Illusion style played slow nixed with a 60's song called Walk On By like (by dunno ? a female performer)

Keep at it, I like the creativity in your song and music style.
Very good musicianship and guitar and synth sounds.

Thanks man, after listening to it a few more dozen times I sure agree on it needing more guitars.

thanks for the listen man.:)

I`ve never listened very much to styx, I`ve heard a song or two and it sure was right up my ally, I just never got around to buying any of there stuff.
I most likely will though:)

Genesis on the other hand has inspired this tune quite massivly, as well as early Queen.

Thanks for the uplifting words mate.

Cool tune Nakatira. Similar to many good bands, especially Queen, Floyd, Bowie etc. This would be a rock opera in the vinyl years. It's a big shame that this type of music is no longer Top 40. :( I am very impressed by the writing in this piece, so complex but easy to listen to. Comfortable and familiar in style but unique at the same time. I did not know you could play the keyboards.

Although the possibility for changes are there (like more guitars) I don't think they are necessary. The piece is solid in its current format.

I would love to see a YouTube video of you playing this - maybe if you have time you could build one :D.

Truly a great piece Nak.....
