This girl jokingly asked me to write a song for her the other day, and today she told me she was sad and wouldn't open up to me. I figured it was time to write something for her.

I'd appreciate if I can get some comments on it tonight as I'll be giving it to her tomorrow. Anything you'd recommend EQ wise, mix wise, throw out wise etc.

Into Oblivion

:)

Hey, good luck with the girl, that's why most guys get into music in the first place.

I think you should bring the vocals up a little more. The guitar is dominating the mix. Also, the intro might be a little long.

Overall, good song, I'm sure she'll like it.

Cheers,

Thanks alot, Chili. That's one of my biggest problems in the mixing stage. Knowing the lyrics and the melody, it's hard to tell with your own ears if it stands out enough.

Really appreciate it :)

Listening on headphones cause it's late...

Guitar sounds like it was recorded well. A couple off-key chords in the intro that I don't care for.

I personally don't like this kind of vocal style. They sound buried behind the guitar also so you should bring them up.

Sounds like you doubled-up the vocals. I might pan the doubled parts a little off-center.

Sounds pretty good though, I like it. Doesn't matter what I think though. Hopefully she likes it. ;)

Def. try to distinguish the vocal parts. It kinda sounds like you forgot to take one of the tracks out almost. I like the acoustic it sounds really raw and its refreshing to me. I would really bring those vocals up though AND watch out for notes, you played a couple that were out of key i think. Good stuff though... good luck with her ;)

The double vocals are a little rough. I would guess that the song being so new when you tracked the second vocals, you may not have had a solid grasp on what the first vocals were doing. Doubling is super hard.... You've probably already presented this to her and hopefully she was responsive....;) Now I would spend some time retracking the vocals so they are tighter. Guitar recorded pretty well - no problems there. Vocal level overall could maybe come up a db or so....

The songwriting is pretty darn good for 5 minutes....

Thanks man, I followed your suggestion of bringing the vocals up a bit and slightly panned the 2 vocal tracks left and right.

Appreciate the comment. I kinda like how the 2 vocal tracks don't perfectly match up, I think it gives it more of a raw feel, and makes it sound like I have someone else singing along which I think kinda brings life to it.

Why thank you, sir. You're right on the nose. It's because the song was too new to me and I had absolutely no idea what I was doing while standing behind that mic :p I definitely think the song is a keeper though, so I will work on it and pay close attention to all your suggestions. Hell, I didn't even use a click track on this :p

I gave it to her on a CD today. She was excited to listen to it. But, my plans to ask her out kinda failed. We were supposed to hang out after school today, but she said she was too sad to do anything. This is the second time she's canceled on me, I think I'll just move on.

But hey, at least I got a semi-decent song out of it, right?
