A lady song it on the Grammys the other night. Don't know her name or the name of the song, but it was a sad ballad about young woman who is abused and ends up dying. The lyrics went somehting like:

She stands like a stone
cold and alone
Trapped in a world
She can't rise above
She flies to a place
Where she is loved

The artist that sang it was a woman that might be 35-40 years old.
Can anybody name that tune? The lyrics to that song were brilliant, and I'd like to use it in my upcoming songwriting class if I can find out what they are.

Martina???

You must not listen to any C & W style, or variance there of, radio stations. Yes she has some KILLER songs.

You know, it's funny....

I'm not a huge country fan, and I don't listen to country radio at all, but I really have a knack for writing country tunes. I've written hundreds of songs and all the best ones are country.

Resistance is futile.

I will be assimilated...

BTW... does she write her own songs? Did she write Concrete Angel?

Aaron,
She did not write the song. She does not write. She plans to some day as I have read.
I like the stuff you have droped at times on the home recording dot com site. Looks like you should be able to get a hit one of these days.

How unfortunate for the writers of her songs-- she includes the lyric of each song on her website but she doesn't list any songwriters. I thought that meant she had written all of them. I'm not familiar with her work. I just keyed part of the lyric Aaron posted into a search engine and her song popped up. Thanks for clearing that up. I thought she was a singer-songwriter until I read your post.

If I had written any of those songs I'd be be feeling very hosed! A writer's name should be just as permanently attached to his/her song as any of the lyrics are. You should never print one without the other.
I'd really like to know who wrote it.

And also, just for the record, I highly doubt she's responsible for the slighting of the authors of her songs.

Chances are decent she's never even seen her own website, much less have a hand in its design or content.

just my opinion. I wouldn't hold it against her.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right.

And I'm sure the Bentley/Crosby have forgave her the moment she began singing it to millions of people at the Emmys.
