Hi

I want to try something different. I just posted a draft song at the first stage of the composition process. It has the guitar, a basic drum tempo and a vocal with no lyrics in pseudo english. I would like to know what's good and what's bad about that song. Also, I would like to receive suggestions on what I should put on that song, how should I arrange it, etc. I think I will put an organ track and I will probably try to play real bass but the rest is not clear. Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated. The song is called "Song 9":

How many members in your band?

Maybe you can work on vocal arrangements, like backup singers. Maybe a synth in the background. What kind of sound are you looking for?
I think this type of music will need a real drummer.

Hi

I'm the only member. I used to play with a drummer and a guitarist/keyboardist but that was in the 80s. For the vocal arrangements, I agree that I will have to do something different. I usually put 2 voices with one a little bit off tune but I will need a bigger chorus effect for that song. For the sound, I want to have a commercial rock sound that is on the heavy side. A bit like "into the light" from "copyright" but with the signing being closer to Deaf Leppard than the Rolling Stones. Yes, I think a real drum would be better. I can ask my old drummer, he still plays drums but he is not big on fuzz guitars. If I stay with the programmed drums, I will have to put a lot of open cymbals and some floor thums in the transitions.

Thanks,

Jack Real

Updated file

Hi

I have worked on the song during the Christmas vacations and I would like to have comments on the drum and bass. It's the first time I use a real bass instead of the bass voices of the keyboard and I like the result but I would like to have other opinions. For the drum, I still use a sequencer but this time I used one of the perset voice of the keyboard. I like the fact that the hi-hats are on the right side while the cymbals are on the left. I used to pan only the toms but this voice pans all the drum elements. Someone in this list has mentioned that my drums are sounding like the drums in the 80s. I think I have fixed the problem because I don't hear the reverb anymore but I'm not sure.

Thanks,

Jack Real

I hear a backround hiss (which dissappears at 3:10 or so and returns at approx 3:35) - maybe its the vocal track?.
The song is promising but slightly repetitive...I think you need to come up with a distinct verse or a distinct chorus cause they sorta blend together (on an instrumental side) and thus on a whole, things sound repetitive.
Good luck

Hi

I received the same comment about this on another song. I think it's the open hi-hat sound of the drum that gets into the reverb of the Roland SRV3030. That would explain it since that part is off from 3:10 to 3:35. For the repetitive part, when I will have real lyrics, I will try to diversify the melodie of the vocal.

Thanks for the comments.

this is definately very 80's sounding. I don't know what to compare it to. Drums need to be more diverse, but the 80's sound kinda goes with the drum sounds so...vocals are a bit repetitive. Not my thing but it sounds like most of the synthy stuff i have heard from the 80's if that is what you were going for.

Hi

Thanks for the feedback. It's tue that it's probably 80's sounding in general. I might try to buy a real drum some day and get the sound to evolve but that's for the future.

Thanks,

Jack Real.
