sonar xl mixer?

the guy at guitar center told me i dont need to buy a mixer because sonar xl has one built-in as a plug-in.
i cant find it.
does anyone know where it is in sonar xl?
also, if it is there and the guy wasnt lying to me, can i use it if i dont record midi? i only record audio.

He was talking about the Console View.

That works once all the audio data has been recorded and you are playing it back or doing a final mix. The Console will not work as a true mixer (as in mixing signals for various sources for live performance) unless you are using a multi-input card with your computer and have input monitoring enabled.
 
nope. no need for a mixer... but if your soundcard only has a stereo input .. then you're screwed.

Either upgrade the card to motu or midiman .. or take it one track at a time.

i am using the delta 66/omnistudio. i am thinking of selling it and buying the delta 1010.
does this sound like a good idea?
at the moment, i am recording one instrument at a time. and may need to record 2 tracks at a time for the drum machine, but in the future, i may want to record a friends band or something. thats one reason why i want a few more inputs.
also, i am just beginning to get into recording midi. what a nightmare for a newbie.
about the mixer, i knew there wasnt a mixer. but now i am wondering, if i was to buy one, how would i set it up?
would i plug into the mixer and then run the mixer into the soundcard.
lets say i have 8 tracks completed and ready for mixing. how do i go about mixing them? just run 8 tracks into 8 tracks of the mixer?
if i am using the omnistudio, i think i can only mix down 2 tracks, left and right, in a mixer. is this correct?
 
Man, you are really asking a lot of questions here. If you are not planning to use more than four analog inputs at a time, stay with the omni. If you want to add more, you could get a flying cow from M-audio to use the SPDIF input. Now you have 6 ins and a bit of preamping. You could get more pre's with an Audio buddy and still not break the bank.

I would also upgrade to Sonar. It should only be about a hundred bucks from PA9. Its interface and automation with faders and effects is worth the price alone. And if you learn that mixer, you will have a lot of control. An upgrade to Win2k or XP will allow you to get the most out of Sonar.

Also, Sonar comes with a few software synths that may come in handy if you learn midi. Stick with it. It will come.
 
i am using sonar xl at the moment. im not sure where you got PA9 from.
but anyway, i just realized that i was posting these questions in the wrong forum.

i think this may be the wrong forum for the delta soundcard questions. but then again, maybe not. i dont know.
 
I think I got the PA9 from another post I responded to. Oops. But I like the other stuff I told ya ;) I have a Delta soundcard also and it's working quite well w/Sonar on Win2k with WDM drivers. very nice. The omni has the same input configuration as my VS-880 HD recorder and that got me through a lot of recording as I used midi drums for an entire CD. I moved to the 1010 because my friend left his drums at my house and I feel comfortable enough with recording to give drum recording a shot. Therefore I need the inputs. God, this is way off topic.:rolleyes:
