Howdy, all. I'm thinking about taking the plunge and upgrading to Sonar, mainly for the new loop features. My understanding is that you can paint your loops (ala ACID) directly into a Sonar track and have them line up tempo-and key-wise -- is that correct?

Right now I'm auditioning loops in ACID, importing them over to CW, listening to them with the rest of the mix, deleting bad choices, reworking in ACID, etc. It's a long and tedious process and if Sonar has truly combined an ACID style loop program with audio and MIDI recording, my prayers may have been answered.

Anyone out there who has worked or is working with Sonar, please let me know if I'm understanding this correctly -- and feel free to volunteer other thoughts on the program in general (whether you think it's worth the upgrade). Muchos gracias!

i was using acid mostly till sonar came out...i liked acid because it was really easy to sequence audio...and you can track in acid . i'd actually track stuff and edit it into smaller chunks or 'loops'...anyway, one reason i got sonar was because it seemed very acid friendly...and it is...it has some really cool features....however, i haven't used sonar enough yet to recommend it over acid...as you know acid 3.0 has midi, and it's always had recording....for my purposes i think sonar is pretty cool for what i'm trying to do, but there were certain features in acid that i utilized rarely and have yet to find out whether sonar has/lacks them...

have you checked out the demo yet? they said one was going to be available soon....that was a month or so ago.

I also used acid quite a bit for looping, then ported the stuff over to Cake. I now have sonar (and software nut that I am Acid 3.0). It seems (correct me if I am doing something wrong) that it take "forever" to load loops for preview in sonar. (since I still use acid for this, perhaps I am missing something). This seems to reflect one typical difference between SF and Cake products. Load an accoustic instrument in Sonar, takes 45 seconds, load it into Vegas, takes 5.

The midi in Acid is primitive... plays midi NO editing at all. Kind of interesting dilema.... you could use acid and port stuff over to sonar or do your midi work in sonar and port it over to Acid!!!
