Sonar timing problems

I have CakeWalk Sonar v2.2. I've loaded my sampler with a drum kit, mapped it into the drum map manager and put a drum loop in. The song runs at 125bpm. The project clock source has to be set to audio which doesnt make the timing run right, if I try any other sources it just DROPOUT's. The timing isnt working right because when I put an existing drum loop over the sequenced beat it runs out of sync. How do you get precise timing?

The answer to your question is a fairly simple one.

Sequenced drum patterns can be freely adjusted to any tempo you desire. In order to do the same with drum loops you need a program like ReCycle or Acid to adjust the tempo. These two programs differ slightly in operation, but give essentially the same result - a drum loop that, for example, plays at 125 bpm.

You have to have another clock source to set it to -- if you assign the timing master to something that isn't there, of course it won't work.

Being a novice I know little about it. Setting the clock to internal, assuming that means cpu clock, I thought that would have worked, which it does but the timing is nowhere near accurate enough. MIDI sync, unsure about what device this needs to work. SMPTE works but when I set a loop up, one pass of the loop and it DROPOUT's.

When I say im a novice I know how to put beats together and what different programs do. However im new to sequencing.

The question still remains how do you get accurate timing?

I don't know what you might be doing wrong, but work through the loop recording tutorial from the book or help system... that should show you how to do it.
