Hi, I'm just a little newbie in this 'ol diggieworld, but I've learned enough, bought and sold enough fx and amps to realize that research and asking around can help save time, energy, and dinero, sooo....

a) i know this is the cakewalk forum, so probably lots ewe like the stuff, but i'll ask anyway: is sonar up to snuff next to logic and/or cubase (and is cubase more for programming/sampling/midi/synth work?)

b)the impression seemsto be that cakewalk products are on the more intuitive end of the multi-track software spectrum--agree?

c) are the extras in XL worth it? It seems like it, but then, I haven't heard any finished product.

d)are there any common interfaces that are incompatible with sonar? I'm looking into MOTU, RME, Aardvark mainly...

e)basically, i'm an analog guy, into ethereal space-funk, however i'd like to be able to use soft-synths, etc, and since it sounds like cakewalk works well with sonic foundry, that should be pretty possible, right??? please, school me.

I know a lottayall paid yer dues and probably sigh at all the silly questions you come across, but I swear I've been doing the work looking stuff up, it's just kinda tough to find everything when your working raising kids and punching 50+ hrs plus gigging (not trying to whine, just pleaze don't say i'm being lazy)--I promise to listen, and I don't mind helping people that ask either.

thanks

Sonar is worth it!

Sonar is all that!. A powerful Audio Midi sequencer that is easy to get going on ...and enough features to hand ( and better ) the big Boys. It has all of the "Pro " features one could ask for ..plus acid looping technology that emagic or steinberg cannot touch. I think it is probobly the most stable sequencer for the Windows Os. Dxi synths are easier on the proccessor than vsti's. The new XL 2.0 is definitley worth it. Two studio quality plug-ins and an awesome drum sampler! Great tech Support ( Cubase has the worst) and a few hundred dollars cheaper than the comparable Logic /steinberg suite. People knock Sonar until they try it. All of the reviewers are usually blown away.....If you have a soundcard with WDM drivers( highly recomended) you will be in business.

Working 50+, raising a family, I relate...

I can't compare Sonar with the others, but I'll second the comment that their support is excellent.
I don't have the XL because I'm not big into loops and softsynths.
I have a Delta - 1010 interface and I love it. I heard Aardvark just came out with WDM drivers - a year after Sonar hit the market.
I think Sonar is very intuitive. The manual is well written, and there are good on-line tutorials.

Good luck

thanks much! your experience and confidence in this product is heartening..
