I know that the MOTU 828 MKII works best with Firewire cards sporting the TI chip.

I've recently installed a new 828MKII but am uncertain of the chip in my Firewire card. Everything seems to be working just fine on playback but I have yet to give it a go as far as recording.

What problems are being experienced with incompatible Firewire cards so I know what to look for?

Or can I assume that since it works fine for playback, I'm okay?

You may be good to go, unless you start getting glitches with multiple tracks that can't be corrected with buffer settings or other PC optimizations.

Navigate to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager .... Expand the list in Device Manager for IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers.
If it is a TI chip, it will say "Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller".

Thanks for the tip!

Will check it out as soon as I get home.
