This is kinda getting annoying, I would set up my POD, which is connected to my MIDI router alone with XP30, and I would tweak POD to do certain effects, playback the song, everything is fine, rewind it, play again, and settings on POD is back to default...

How do I setup it up in Sonar so that it will keep its hands off my other midi gear/program?? I will eventualy like to run the emagic midi program for pod and Sonar together, but haven't had the luck so far.

Thanks

Al

If the your MIDI-router (?) has drivers that are multi-client (I mean, two or more programs can use them at the same time), then it can be done without any tweaks...

But it seems like you don't have multi-client drivers. Then I would disable the input/output you use for the POD in Sonar under Options -> MIDI Devices.

You need to either tell Sonar to stop transmitting Program Change data on certain channels or tell the POD to filter out Program Change MIDI messages.

moskus,

I have a 8 in/out midi interface, so, i assume it is multi-client.

brzilian:

i think that's the solution. how do i tell sonar to stay in 1 ch only?

thanks

Multiclient means that more than one program can access a port on your interface at the same time... If you're running two programs accessing the same port, it could cause problems if your drivers aren't multi-client...

I still think that's the easiest sollution is do disable the ins/outs used for your POD in Sonar (unless you have programmed patch changes for the POD).

Here's something for you to play around...

First, go Options --> Project --> MIDI Out tab.

You'll find the option at the bottom section.

Uncheck "Zero controller when..."

Uncheck "Patch/controller searchback..."

Go View --> Sysx.
Make sure there's no system exclusive bank loaded automatically in the begining of the song.

In addition to what brzilian mentioned above...

You need to either tell Sonar to stop transmitting Program Change data on certain channels or tell the POD to filter out Program Change MIDI messages.

In case you really need to transmit Program Change to XP 30, then create the controller onlyto certain port/channel used by XP 30. In track view, select the MIDI track assigned to XP 30, set the particullar channel, go Insert --> Bank/Patch change. Refer to your MIDI implementation chart of Roland XP 30 for detail.

do you mean going into Midi Device and uncheck the ports that are not being used by Sonar?

I went in sys view and found one thing on top of the list (bank#0), is that what you mean by "begining of the song"??

No, uncheck the ports that you use with the POD. :)

Could be... now we must know the destination of the Sysx. I mean, to which port the Sysx being sent ? If it's to the port leads to your POD, then you'll want to delete it (save the bank first before doing so, you may need to recall it again latter if necessary).
