I'm trying to help out a drummer friend. He's got a new Yamaha DTXpress setup going into one MIDI track. He'd like to take the kit from there and split it up so he'd be able to edit different hits/drums. What's the recipe we should follow?

I've got my SonarPower3 book out. Would we make multiple MIDI tracks, then make copies of the completed drums to each track, then apply some filter or some sort of tool to the data?

Thanks

quick update

I believe we found the answer running CAL and then split notes.

The easiest is the Split Notes to Tracks.cal program, as you have already discovered.

For myself, however, I ususally just clone the track as many times as I need individual tracks, and then I go into each track and delete the items I don't want on that track.

This is relatively easy to do, since you can highlight an entire item (e.g., snare) with just a single click, and then delete it, althought it's not as easy as the CAL program.

For me, however, I tend to prefer this way because I usually don't want every single item on it's own track. For example, I keep the hi hat stuff on one track, whether they be open, closed, or pedal hits. The CAL program puts them on 3 separate tracks IIRC. Same with toms, I put all toms on one track as well.

Whatever gets you through the night....

Thanks, that was sort of the approach I was thinking in terms of. I think we'll end out trying both just as a training exercise. Thanks again.
