SONAR Aux Sends Question

In SONAR, I have assigned some fx plug-ins to an aux bus. I want to run those fx in serial, not parallel, so that no dry signal can be heard when I activate a track's aux send.

I considered using a virtual main, but obviously, doing this sends the audio out the wrong output on my soundcard!

I want the signal to stay on outs 1/2 no matter what I do.

Is it possible to do this? Or will I have to create some kind of widget in the studioware panel that will simultaneously mute the track AND switch to the aux bus?

Thanks for any help,

Set the outs on the individual tracks to "none" and then all you'll hear is the out from the aux bus. I think. I've never set my outs to none, I'm just assuming you can, just like the input.

Not sure that I completely understand what you want to do.

However, if you set the Aux Bus setting on the track to Pre (fader) and drop the track's fader all the way down, you should get nothing but the Bus.

If you only want to do this on a specific section of the track, you will have to do it using envelopes. You can use a volume envelope and a Bus Send envelope working in opposite directions.

Or did I completely miss your direction? :)

It doesen't mean that... You can specify which output you want to use with any VMain. You can have 200 VMains and let everyone be output through the same physical output on your soundcard.

At the bottom of the Track View, you see the tabs All, Mix, FX and I/O. Next to them there's a button with a triangle in it. Press it, and you get a line where all your VMains and Aux'es are. Now, configure the VMains to go out through the required output...

Or just use the Console View, much easier :D. At the bottom of the VMain you can select the output.

And FYI: If you add several effects in the track's FX-spot, they will be added in serial...

:)

Perfect, this is just what I needed to know, thanks! Now, the next question is:

Can I program a key on my laptop's keyboard to trigger a track to switch between virtual main A and virtual main B? Can I create that kind of thing in the studioware panel?

What I would do is group the VMain's volumecontrols. I'll tell you how to do that right, using the Console View (let's face it, it's just easier ;))

  1. Open the Console View (View -> Console, or just hit Alt+3)
  2. Rightclick on VMain A's volume slider and select Group -> A (the red one)
  3. Rightclick on VMain B's volume slider and select Group -> A
  4. Rightclick on one of the faders and select 'Group Properties'
  5. Select Custom at the top of the box you get
  6. Select "Gain In Main Bus 1" and set the start-value to 100 and end-value to 0
  7. Select "Gain In Main Bus 2" and set the start-value to 0 and end-value to 100
  8. Hit OK
    [/list=1]
That's it! Now you can even cross-fade between them! :D

  1. Awesome! Is there a way to map that to a key on the keyboard?
