Sonar and Battery "C1 = C3"????

So, I've managed to get Battery 2 working in Sonar 5. However, the one problem I now find is that whatever drum sample I map in Battery to C1, for example, is triggered on C3 in Sonar 5s midi sequencer.

1 - Why?

2 - How to fix this?

3 - Is there a way to just change the note references in Sonar's midi sequencer to match the numeric value in Battery? (you know, make C3 become labelled C1)?

Isn't there a way to set the ground note in Battery?

I"m not sure what you are trying to say.

In battery I set the kick drum for C1, for example. And in Sonar, if I use C1 nothing happens. However, if I use C3 in Sonar the battery sample under C1 plays.

Different synths and stuff implement MIDI differently. Sometimes there is an option in the program to change whether C0 = C0 or C0 = C2.

I don't use Battery but in BFD this is labelled as "-2 octave numbering"...

Ciao,

Thanks, I still don't understand that, but hey, you learn something new all the time. Thanks again. I've looked up settings and all I can find is to change in Sonar....Options - Global - General Tab - Base Octave for Pitches change to -2. Not sure if this is right because now I get MIDI keys that are labelled C-1 and C-2 below C1.

Hey flet, if you read page 58 of the the manual you will find the following:

Key Range: These two fields determine the MIDI note range that
will trigger the current Cell. For example, a key range of C2-C2
means that the Cell will play only upon receiving MIDI note C2. If
set to C1-E1, then C1, C#1, D1, D#1, and E1 will all trigger the
Cell (see the Track section for info on whether these different notes
will change the Cell’s pitch).
There are two ways to set the Key Range:
• Double-click on the low range and type in a new note name or
numeric value. If you type in a numeric value, BATTERY 2 will
automatically convert it to a “musician-friendly” MIDI note
name (for example, type “60,” and the display will show C3).
If necessary, do the same for the high range. Using this
method does not change the root key.
• Click on the Learn button. Use a keyboard or other MIDI note
generator to play first the low range note, then the high range
note. After playing the second note, the display will update to
show the new key range. With this method the root key will be
changed to the low note.

I know everyone on the BBS breaks out in a rash if they actually read a manual but sometimes, its the only way ;) :)

I just tried this and it worked, so give it a go and report back.
