Guys, please check this link to a laptop, its a ,Ug.... Compaq. Would it run sonar 5 fairly well just for recording? Max 16 tracks? It has only a 533 front side bus, dual core,I can stuff 2 gig memory in it. I hate laptops for audio, Im a desktop guy but I have a reason with an upcomming project to use this just for recording then transfer tracks into my main pc for mixing.
Thanks for help!

laptop soundcard

ok, so I check with cakewalk and they tell this laptop is cool for my needs. Trouble is soundcard drivers are not! Comes up with soundcard errors upon start of program. I assume I will need to use external soundcard? If so, any recomendations?
Thanks

it seems that the on board sound card can only play 48 and 96k audio. It does not recognise 44.1 which is what I use. Hum? Now what.

I'll be using the Mackie 1640 Onyx with firewire and this only has 1 firewire port.

Install the Mackie drivers and hook up the Onyx, then go to the control panel audio and select the Onyx for all I/O. Then start Sonar and under

Optioins->Audio->Drivers

Select the Onyx for all I/O.
