Sonar 5 and DFH SUperior... working out?

They playing well together? I hear it was a pain in the ass on earlier versions of Sonar. What about now?

And, for those of you using DFHS, whatcha think?
 
I'm using DFHS with Sonar 5 PE with no problems whatsoever. I also used it on Sonar 4 with no problems. I never have understood what all the fuss was about with DFHS & Sonar. :rolleyes:
THe VST adaptor just doesn't want to deal with the mono outputs quite right so you need to get a template set up to work around it with some creative bussing. You can get the Sonar template from the Toontrack website.....then...no problems. As far as the DFHS learning curve, I also think that is a little inflated. If you can read a manual and are reasonably knowledgable about MIDI you'll have no problems. By the way, the software absolutely kicks ass! ;)
 
I've only had both apps for a short time, and am already getting to where I can make some decent drum sounds. To me, the hardest part is still just the mixing once you get drums programmed and bounced down. I've had no problems with the programs operation, you just have to spend some time learning how to get around, and read what other users do to make a more realistic sound. ;) To me, not being a drummer was the real drawback, just because I don't really know where to start. I tend to start too simple, and these programs can do much more. Practice is all it takes.
I think I have had the program crash once, but it was in mixing after the drums were bounced, so I didn't lose much. Best drums I have ever dealt with.

I use them together and the results are really good. If you have a drummer who can help you program them, its near impossilbe to tell they weren't tracked live.

When I program them, because I am not a drummer, it sounds really good but comes off like a really bad drummer on a really good set of drums. :D
 
Yeah, Ive been using the orignal DFH for a few years now, and its a little bit of trouble getting them realistic but not impossible. I think the SUperior version will make it easier from the looks of it.
I'm going to hunt for a second hand version on ebay and the forums for a week or two, and if no luck, buy it new I guess. Going to use triggers and DFHS on the drummers that come in with crappy kits and make them sound like gods, heh.
They'll love me. :)

I know what you mean about being a non-drummer. I have some stuff that the hits sound good, but I made it too mechanical. Metalhead told me about going in and adjusting velocity trails, and not worrying about things lining up perfect, and now the latest one sounds fairly realistic. Way better than a drum machine.
