Hi guys, i recently upgraded to sonar 5, but for some reason it won't let me record in 24 bit! It doesn't give me an error, but the window down the bottom still states i'm in 16-Bit, even once i restart the program.

I even checked the settings after restart, which say that my default is 24-Bit, but the bottom of the main window doesn't reflect that...

If it helps, i am running the Edirol FA-101...

 <--- *me being confused*

Thanks in advance!!

Sounds like you are using ASIO drivers. If so, the bit depth needs to be changed in the driver's control panel software before Sonar will recognise it.

- Close Sonar
- Open the sound card configuration panel
- Set it to 24-bit
- Close the config panel
- Re-open Sonar

Should work from that point. You might also need to specify the input and output drivers in OPTIONS-AUDIO after doing the above list.

Ciao,

I had this problem too. Searched around the Cakewalk forums and came up with this:

You have to go to Options---->Global

Then I think there is a tab in there for like Audio or something, and there you can set the bit depth for recording. It will work right once you do that, but will stay at 16 bit if you only go into the Options---->Audio settings, even though that's where it used to be in Sonar 4. Strange move by cakewalk if you ask me, but oh well...

Hi Qwerty,

sorry, I should have specified... I'm using WDM drivers. (recommended for sonar in my cards manual)

cawhite12:

That sounds like the ticket! I'm going to go test that out. I'll post results when i'm done! :D

The results are in! Hehehe...

cawhite12 nailed it! Boy that is a really odd decision on cakewalks behalf... but hey. what can you do? i guess search the cakewalk forums!

Thanks so much for your help guys! One slight problem... my soundcard seems to produce constant white noise, meaning i can't record squat! *sigh*

off the the Edirol forums i go!
