Dude..... I just bought a Dell!!

But seriously, I have a new Dell running Windows XP. The processor is fast(2.2 gigs I think), 128 megs of ram. I tried to import a file from Windows Media Player and Sonar told me that there's "No more memory". WTF?

What did I do wrong?
Thanks,
RF

128 Megs of RAM is a bit on the light side for audio work. Particularly running Win Xp. You might want to consider bumping it up to 512 or so.

However, that is not necessarily your problem here. What type of file are you trying to import and what is the size? And what do you mean when you say you're trying to import it from Windows Media Player?

The file is 6.7mg from a store bought CD. I copied it from a CD using WMP and stored it to my Hard drive. I then tried to imoprt it into cakewalk and then got the dreaded sign. The type of file...............? I'm not sure if WMP will let me choose the format to save it in. Will Sonar only read a WAV file if imported?
Thanks,
RF

This is what I hate about Dell. I bet the whole computer package costs about $500. People say "hey i can get a dell for $500!' Who puts 128 mb of ram on an xp machine? This shows how Dell uses the words 'intel pentium 4' to sell the machine and then skimp on everything else.

AFAIK, Media Player rips CD's into .wma format files. Sonar will read and import several different audio formats, including .wma files.

Not sure what your problem is. It could be the 128 Mb of memory.

Another possibility is that, by default, Media Player encodes some sort of copy protection into ripped files. You can turn it off though, using the tools menu. Maybe this is preventing Sonar from reading the file?

Have you tried importing other files?

I got it! It did turn out to be the protect function in WMP.
This computer though new will not be my music computer. I actually have an identical Dell sitting in a box waiting for the studio to be completed. On that one, I upgrades the RAM to 512.
Thanks for the help...
