I am accumulating a fairly large collection of sound fonts. I usually have 4 different lib`s loaded at any one time. However some of the files are too large for Sound font memory so I have to edit them before they can be loaded.. some are 8 meg and larger. I have 512 meg of system ram with XP managing it.. Hopefully this question will be useful for others too..

What is the quickest, easy, straightforward method of increasing the sound font memory in Sonar on a WinXP OS, so that larger Sound fonts can be loaded?

I saw no other way in SONAR than to slide your SoundFont memory setting with your AudioHQ... :( What a silly....:o

Right, it's not a SONAR issue at all, it's a setting for the SB card. By default it's set conservatively low, like 8MB or so. Just crank it up higher in the AudioHQ software.

It should be also noted that SBLive can't play more than 32 Mbyte worth of samples at any given time no matter how big your RAM is or how the static cache is set. As a workaround you may want to consider converting some tracks to audio thus freeing up some memory. The original midi tracks may be archived and hidden.

Thanks guys. You were right. I had allowed for twice the largest soundfont lib I had after I installed xp and the live. I did a reinstall of xp and for some reason the MS drivers overwrote the drivers I had and the sound font memory allocation in HQ had been reset to the minimum. I had to reinstall audioHQ and the live drivers. I reckon if it had been a snake it would have fed off me for several days...... :)
