Sonar 2 XL crashing when loading project

Hi there, I have just installed Sonar 2.0 XL, and I find it always crashes when trying to load a previously saved project.

Curious thing, it only happens with MY projects, not with the sample projects included. In my projects I use Native Instruments FM7, and every time I load the project a window pops up reading "SONAR has generated errors and will be closed". It also crashes sometimes when I try to select a preset patch for any DXi synth (it also happened to me with DR-008).

I am using W2000, with a Fortissimo sound card, WDM drivers; the sound engine seems to be working perfectly. I also installed the Plugin Patch from the Cakewalk website.

I hope someone can help me... Thanx in advance,

Angel.

I had some trouble with Sonar XL screwing up projects I had recorded in Pro Audio 9. Things like not being able to find all the wave files, etc. I didn't have anything too valuable recorded, so I didn't put much effort into finding a solution. But, you could try saving your old projects as bundle files then importing them and resaving them.

I have Sonar XL 1.3.1 and I'm having similar problems. Sonar crashes and reboots the whole machine. I've got a request in to them to check this out further and I've done everything they asked so far (see: http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/technical_documents/Kernal32.asp) Gonna try starting from scratch and reinstalling everything from the operating system up.

I'm starting to suspect my memory is bad. Anyone know of any utilities for testing memory (aside from booting up and watching the bios claim that it's "OK")?

You try the "safe load" option? I think you hold the Shift key when selecting a file and hitting open from the open file window.

SOLVED!!!!

Hiya all...

... Thanks for your replies. The problem was in the FM7 DXi instrument. I got a new version of it, deinstalled the previous one, replacing it with the new version, and now it works!
I can load my song, with the DXi instrument, and life is beautiful, plus today is my birthday.

Thanks again for your suggestions and replies,

Angel.

I had to contact TC Native and was directed to a download sight when I had problems with their software after going to Sonar 2 and Windows XP. Not quite the same problem as you but similar.
They are very helpful through e-mail but I'm not crazy about their instruction books.

Most cakewalk problems are due to incompatibility with the version of windows you might be using.

If this is the message you get before it crashes,
'An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.'

Here's what you can (should) do:

1. search for drwtsn32.log
2. See if it did generate this file and search the file to see if it shows
the sonar executable as the cause of crash.
3. If yes, there're several ways of debugging this problem and fixing it.

The problem is because sonar made a request for memory
with the MEM_TOP_DOWN flag set. A bad pointer was returned,
causing the Dr. Watson error message. (You really don't need to understand this
sentence)

Easiest thing to do to fix this is, get the latest service pack of the windows version you're using
(if you're using win2000, get serive pack 3.0) and your problem should be gone.

No fix. Sorry. Nice try. Thanks for the info but Sonar still bombs with sp3 installed. Same memory protection exception. Didn't go away.
