I am using Sonar 2Xl and currently have an Creative Audigy Platinum. Due to it's poor latency, I am considering putting a Midiman Audiophile 2496 as a second card.

I would like to still use my inputs to the audigy if possible. (ie Mic2 and Aux2).

Can I use the output (spdif) on the front of the audigy breakout box to drive the 2496 (spdif in)?

How would I set this up?

Should I also bother to switch the midi ins to the 2496 card?

You can still use the Audigy inputs but not record from them at the same time you record with the Audiophile. The 2 cards have their own clock crystals and will eventually drift out of sync.

Yes, just make sure the SPDIF settings on the Audiophile match the output of the Audigy

Not sure whaat you're asking. :(

If you want, but its not necessary. If you have or plan to get more gear, you can use both MIDI ports.

Thanks Brzilian for your answer. I was not going to use the Audigy for recording only for amplification for the mike inputsand maybe for midi using soundfonts. I wonder if there's anyone out there doing this. If not, what mike preamp do people use to get an spdif out when they use the Audiophile 2496?

I wouldn't do it. The Audigys mic preamp is not good at all, it stinks! I would invest in a small mixer... Behringer is frown at around these forums, but a Behringer MX602 would do a much better job than the Audigy.

....or you can pick up a preamp like the M-Audio AudioBuddy and connect the mic to that and run the output of the preamp into your Lin-in jack. It'll probably be cheaper than buying a mixer with extra inputs you will never use.

Thanks for your comments guys. Do you think it would be better then to go for say a Delta 44 with the breakout box? (I presume this is external to the PC. Rather like the extigy.) Then I have mic inputs w/o preamp. If so has Delta 44 got decent wdm drivers? (Whoops this may be a sensitive question to ask following recent threads!)

Sorry I realise now that the Delta 44 only has line ins. So my question would then be is there a good audio card that has mic preamps contained in it?

You can sync an audiophile to another cards s/pdif out.
I may be wrong, but is the Audigy like the Live in that it's digital out is only at 48khz? In which case you will have to record at that setting.
In the Audiophile control mixer there is a setting for internal or external sync and when external is selected is reports if there is an s/pdif clock signal present.
The Audiophile only has rca connectors for s/pdif - no optical.
