Sonar 2.2 and Audiophile 2496 delay problem

I noticed that there is a delay effect when I play my guitar while a track on Sonar is armed. When I record using the same armed track I notice the delay disappears and it just my main guitar playing without the effect. When I unarm the track, the delay effect disappears as well. My current setup:

Guitar -> J-Station (Digital output) -> Audiophile 2496 (Digital In) -> PC

How do I get rid of the delay effect? (Note it is not a plugin, I think the hardware is causing it).
 
don't play with the track armed unless you are recording. I trust you have set up the 2496 so that you are monitoring the input.
 
Welcome to the world of Latency!

The idea is to get you latency as low as possibly whilst recording... you can still hear it, but around 10ms is when it's hard to hear if it's there or not.

BTW, Which drivers are you using? If you let people know WDM or ASIO they will be able to give you a hand with that card.

I use the audiophile 2496 on my Pentium 4. With WDM drivers, I can get a respectable 5.3 ms of latency. No real stability problems.
