Something I never quite understood about bitrate.....

Reading another post there I seen 16 bit drums in a 24 bit mix. Is this possible? The sample rates have to be the same but the bitrate can be different?

I'm in the same boat. All my drums are 16 bit samples sequenced in fruity loops and exported as single tracks in .wav format. I've always recorded everything else in 16 Bit because I thought I had to. Did I wander off at the crossroads?

Sampling rates do have to be the same but depending on your hardware, you can mix bit depth (16 bit drums in an otherwise 24 bit project).

That's not "bitrate" -- it's wordsize, bit depth, bit resolution.......

Bitrate is the number of bits transferred per second in compressed audio/video formats such as MP3s or MPEGs.

S/w usually likes to work with clips of all the same format - some will conform them to the project settings. It depends on the s/w...........

This explains whi I dropped out after the first year of my electronic engineering degree. LOL

Cubase v5 import the 16 bit drums in and try recording everything else at 24 bit. I'll give that a try. Some things I grasp quite quickly...other beers I have to try a few times just to make sure.
