Well I calmed it down a little from my last few submissions. I found out with this song that I really don't like my voice. Anyway, any help is welcome on the mix and anything else that needs a tending to.

"You Can't Say"

This could be it for a while cause we just bought new house and everything is dismantled!

Thank you'ins!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Okay, going to listen now

I don't care if you ARE a total homo, you have yet to produce anything bad enough to make me laugh.

I like the bass tone, so it's probably a banjo played through a POD, right? lol. Regardless, the bass LINE was cool.

Your vocals rule....so shut up already.

2 things about the mix...First, do you have some kind of plate reverb on one of the cymbals or high hat or the drums in general? Something seems to be giving a weirdish hiss, but it comes and goes....so I thought maybe a reverb.

Secondly, the overall volume of the track seems low...like you forgot to normalize it or limit it or something.

Otherwise, totally kick ass.

Peace,
Chris

Wow you got a great sound on this one. Nice full production, nice separation of the instuments, good definition, good tones. I liked it a bunch. The reverb was a little too big for my tastes.

Twist

I agree with Twist. Great sound indeed....I even liked the big reverb :D

Little things that bother me:

-Bit too much high end in the acoustic guitars.
-Some intonation problems in your vocals, but in general: not bad at all, man! Just redo them, but instead of thinking 'o man, I suck' you should try to convince yourself you can pull it of. I'm sure it gets better if you do. :)

Overall a very good sound I thought. I liked the song. The bass was very cool sound. Good part too.

The attack of the acoustic guitar was fighting with the highhat. A bit too much energy in that range.

The syncing on the harmonies through :39-:45 was a little rough. I liked the harmonies though. Good parts that all blended well. Little vocal bobble at 2:14.

Good job.

I can't find anything to critique but wanted to let you know - good song and good job mixing from my inexperienced ears.

I was going to comment on the reverb, but after a couple listens I think it fits real well.

Nice job. If it had dominant piano it would be a Bruce Hornsby song with that bass line and feel.

Good stuff dude

Joe

This is a good song.

The vocals sound fine. NOBODY likes there own voice, so shut up! ;)

I agree that the acoustic guitar is a bit thin sounding.

I don't dig "Fruity Loop" drums (or any other drum machine type of things......). Since that is the obvious drum method used here, I won't comment more on the drums.

The bass tone is great. Good job on that.

I agree that the reverb could have been a bit more transparent.

Overall, good job.

Ed

love the voice......good song......

some of the drum fills are a little too over the top for me on this song....but they do sound great......

a little pitch wavering on the harmonies......we can smell our own....i do the same thing........

good stuff

Nothing to laugh at here.

The songwriting is right up there with what the Monkees were working with. And that was pro stuff that the producers bought to use with the fake fab four.

The vocals worked for me. No complaints.

The guits, both backing and lead were not spectacular- but were highly appropriate for their context.

The drums and bass, likewise.

The backing vocals could have a tad more definition- or not! :)

Your voice is fine. The arrangement's solid and the mix is great - everything's hearable without dominating or getting lost - I can't hear anything I'd change. Which means I'm not being very helpful, I guess. :D

I really like the guitar sound and the playing on this one. Those doubled riffs at the end are too tasty!

I bet Emeric likes this one.

Chris - You will always be my honey! The bass was a Mandolin through a Marshall Stack! Seriously though, I think the hiss came from the acoustic guitar. I cut too much out of the lows or added too much highs. Thanks of the listen!

Twist - Yea I used that reverb to try to change my voice a bit so I didn't puke. Thanks for listening!

Pedullist - You nailed the acoustic problem. I need to drop out some of the highs. Bad attitude is my biggest downfall. Thanks for listning!

TripleM - You are right as well. I can hear it a little better now that you picked it out. I will go back and try it again. Thanks!

skids - Thanks! I liked the reverb too. I think I will prolly leave that alone.

Smokepole - Thanks for the listen! I guess I need to go back over some Bruce songs!

sonusman - Thanks for the comments. Actually it isn't Fruity Loops, it is a drum loop from some CD that I bought real cheap. Well maybe they used fruity loops hmmmm. Dunno? They are kinda cheezy. But you are correct it is a loop. Thanks for listening!

powderfinger - Yeah drums have been and will always be my biggest down fall. I am doomed to use loops for awhile.. Thanks for listening!

drstawl - Doc good to hear from you on this one! I am a bit more cheezy than the Monkeys. :D Thanks for the comments!

dobro - Damn that is the best review I have had from you! Thanks!

damn Scott, thats good. I grew up on those bass and guitar tones, oakley, betts, caldwell, hirsh . I aint sayin nothing bout the drums. The singing was fine as wine.
well written tune man. Again...,that bass line and guitar made me feel real good. The singing was sweet and natural. The mix was as good or better than Idlewild South.

Scott,

Great to hear your stuff. I regularly listen to "My Imagination". Love it. It's on my personal "Home Recording Complication CD".

I'm at work, so I can't comment too much on the mix. However, I think TripleM is right on target regarding the acoustic and cymbals. I can hear it, but wouldn't have been able to necessarily pin point it like he did - a valuable lesson for me.

I can relate to you on the "voice-thing". I actually think we have similar singing voices. I wish I had a "dirtier" vocal. I"ve got decent vocals, can sing in tune, but, only seem to fit on poppier stuff (IMHO). When I'm singing with just my acoustic, I think it works great. The moment I hear the same thing on tape, I cringe.

One other thing, I think I hear a couple of harmonies out of tune.

What setting did you use for the organ? What synth do you use? Of course, assuming that isn't a real organ.

Good tune (but I like "My Imagination" better).

BPOCO

PS - I LOVE drum loops !!! Real drums are for fags !!!! LOL. That ought to piss plenty of people off.

Nice tune

This has a real nice flow to it, vocals and b/g's were great. Bass had meat for days, nothing to laugh about here...another jam-up tune.

you're preaching to the choir there.......i think everyone here wishes they had a real drummer to work with.....i know i miss the guy i used to play w/

good tune as always.. Yeah I definitely like your other stuff better, but this is good too.. I can't offer any mix suggestions at the moment due to a new speaker and living situation, but it sounded pretty decent over here..

Toki987 - Thanks for the comments! Yeah the drums suck more everytime I hear it. I wish I could have done something different. I have my studio disassembled right now so editing aint gonna happen but when I get moved in to my new house I will try and fix that. :D Thanks!

bpoco - Yea I have to remember to take some highs out of the acoustic. The organ sound was a preset from my Yamaha So3 cheapy keyboard. It works for me cause everything else is kinda cheese too!

freshears hey thanks! it is alwasy good to have first impression comments!

powderfinger Yeah, the thing that scares me about real drums is I have no idea how to record them. It takes so long to learn just the basics of recording. Taking on that may be too much for me. BUT I will never say never. :D

B.SABBATH Yeah I don't know what got into me. I was feeling airy! Thanks for the listen!
