some questions before purchasing...

Ok, right now Musician's Friend is having a deal that if you buy a Firepod, you get Amplitube Live for free. I made an order for my firepod on there, and then I got an email saying that it has been backordered until June 24th or something like that (even though it STILL says IN STOCK on the website, and after they told me that they update the site every 30 minutes and its been like 2 days now). Anyway, I found a Firepod on eBay that comes bundled with either a Shure SM57, Art Tube MP (which i dont need), or a MXLV67G. I'm considering cancelling my order on Musician's Friend, even though I'm somewhat interested in giving Amplitube a try. Do you guys think i might be better off getting another mic? Right now, all i have is a trusty ol' AKG C2000B. I'm thinking of getting the SM57 to mic up my amp and eventually serve as a snare mic when i build up enough mics to record a full drumset. Would it be a better value to get the SM57, MXLV67G, or wait and get Amplitube Live along w/ my Firepod? I'm thinking the SM57 might be more versatile to me than the MXLV67G because the MXL is more similar to the mic I already have, but of course I don't really know that, so that's why I'm asking you guys. I guess which mic would I be better off with in the long run? Is Amplitube Live good enough to skip out on a free mic (and wait another 3 weeks for)? FYI the music im gonna be doing is mostly hard rock/metal type stuff and i have a pretty crappy amp right now so thats why im considering a modelling program (but only cus its FREE).

I found Samplitude 6.0 on eBay for really cheap. I had pretty much narrowed my future software choice to Samplitude V8 based on what i've read on here and read/heard elsewhere. This might be kind of a dumb question, but should i go ahead and get the old version of Samplitude so I have the option to upgrade it later, or should I try to master Cubase LE, Wavelab and my other current programs (Acid Pro 3.0 for multitracking, CE2K for editing, all legal of course!) first? I don't want to get in over my head as far as trying to learn too many different programs at once, but is Samplitude 6.0 good enough to basically throw my old stuff away and start fresh with?

I know all of this stuff is just based on opinion, but I really trust the experience that you guys have around here and hope that i can get some useful insight on the matter. my goals for now with home recording is just to record stuff that i am making by myself for practice so that someday in the future i can try to put out some relatively good sounding stuff. i just want to gain experience and knowledge that will help me become better as a musician and better at recording/mixing and would like help with choosing some good learning tools that will be best for me in the long run. maybe one day when im confident enough, i'll post up an MP3 of something i've recorded and see what you think of it. OK sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for any help/advice you can spare!
 
The SM-57 is more of an all rounder, as you said you can use it on a cab and to mic drums in the future amongst other things. The V67G is more of a dedicated vocal mic and it's pretty coloured. I'd say you're more likely to pick up used 57's on ebay pretty cheap so I'd probably err towards the Marshall. On the other hand if you're only recording yourself and the MXL doesn't suit your voice then it's not a lot of good to you. You really need to audition mics (and vocal mics in particular) before buying.

That said if you're looking to build up a collection of mics to cover all the bases then imho the V67G is a good budget choice in the dark vocal mic category and I'd probably go for that (keeping an eye on ebay for used SM57s). Harvey gerst likes it- nuff said.

OK i got my firepod, and it's been awesome so far. I can't say the same about Cubase LE though. for recording, it works great, but as far as trying to arrange songs in it, well i had always used ACID for mixing and stuff, and i'm having a hard time getting adjusted to Cubase. it seems like theres no easy way to do anything on Cubase, but then again maybe i just need to get used to it. anyway, i'm still considering buying Samplitude 6.0 Producer and i was wondering if it would have any compatibility issues with my Firepod (considering how 6.0 is pretty old...)? Also, does Samp6.0 have VST plugin support, or does it use a VST-DX converter? if any Samplitude users can help me out here, i'd really appreciate it. thanks!
