Hey Guys...
Its been a year in the making but my first CD is finally up on MP3.com... "Dancin' in the Shadows of Heaven's Gate".

There are three new tunes up there as well. Check out "Every Street in Town" and "The Mission". I have also remixed and remastered everything. Finally, I can move on to the next CD!!!

Hope you like it, and I'd love some critiques of the new tunes...

I'm heading down to Houston for a week... see ya when I get back.

Viva Alt Country!!

Ben

Ben, If you get your hands on a laptop in the oil city, send us url will ya. I'll try a search in the meantime.

Hey Ray J... I'm sure I'll find a laptop of PC to jump on while I'm down there.... I'm a bit confused, though, by what you meant by: "send us url will ya. I'll try a search in the meantime." thanks, Ben

Ben - I liked "The Mission" . Super fine guitar work. I love that 7th or 9th (whichever is was) you kept slipping in there and the minor tonality of everything. Clever lyrics too. Great job

Ray J

Hey RayJ... sorry about the delay in getting back here... I have been swamped, but glad you liked The Mission... I originally wrote the rhythm part on guitar and the lead part on keyboard but later learned it on guitar... It's always interesting to me how writing a part on a different instrument brings a whole different character to the piece...

Hey geniuses, have you ever considered actually clicking on his www icon link? hehe...Ben

By the way Ben, my ears appreciated your rich production.

Ben, very interesting songs. I listened to Every Street and Mission. Very nice interplay of guitar parts. Good tone also, although maybe a little too much squeak. I thought the vocal of Every Street was a little weak, and way too much reverb. I would bring it up and reduce the effects, more like the vocal on the Mission.

I clicked on "Every Street" and liked the tune.
But I thought it could've used a tad more in total range between the quietest part and the loudest.
Mind you- it didn't have any other tell-tale trace of having pushed the levels other than the lack of dynamic range.
Quiet parts that are worlds apart from the loud parts are a good thing. :)

OK I got them ALL thru the luxury of cable.

You and Me and the Night:

Singing out of an Oatmeal Box. And lots of hiss.

Heaven's Gate:

Fairly Quiet. Nice Guitar/Vocal Tones.

Look At Me:

Just a little bright.

One Trip to Heaven:

Too much reverb. Beautiful Tune!

Rock Island Blue and the Mission

Oh Yeah! Best Tunes. Best Recordings
What was that cell phone ring noise?
The only distraction.

The River Queen:
Nice slide work.

Ben,

I've got your CD bro, and you know I love it.

I would say my favorite song is the one on which I sing, but it ain't.

It's the "The West Texas Wind"... I just dig it alot.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks Dudes!!

Hey benbird, Slim, drstawl and Teddie:

Thanks for all of your great comments. I appologize for not being around to reply for a while, but... as with most of us... time is hard to find.

drstawl: Thanks for taking the time to review almost ALL of my songs... your comments are really appritiated. In fact the first thing I did was go back and take a hard listen to "You and Me and the Night" that you had the most concern with. I have since re-recorded the vocal, added a few keyboard parts, am remixing and will repost it soon. Its a tough song to make sound great because it was unfortunately recorded on cheap tape on an old 4 track before I bought my digital recorder. The hiss on the original was bad. I should start over and re-record it but lack the time. Either way, I will repost it soon.

I'm glad everyone likes the tunes.

Viva mp3!!

Bem

Listening to "Every Street In Town" now, love it. Love it.

Okay, now the critique... :D

Vocals, make 'em deeper. Not by EQ or anything, I mean when you sing, think Johnny Cash and sing from the bottom of your tongue. In fact, take yer tongue and pull it all the way back, it'll give you a deep country-fried quality to this track (haven't heard others). Right now it seems you're "wimping" the vocals. You know, like you're sitting in a chair or something.

That's it. Now THIS is my type of music!

:D

Hey Kelly ...

Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you liked the song...

Now, if I could sing like Johnny Cash I'de have to move to Nashville and make a go of it...

Guess thats why I'm still here on mp3 LOL

Thanks for listening!!
