Hi
I will be a newbie to Cubase but I've had some recording and midi experience. My question is the following, maybe it's been asked before, if so, my apologies, please refer me to the old posts.

I would like to get a new hi-fi set including an AV receiver + DVD recorder + CD recorder. I want the recorders to have flexibility of recording from TV or other sources whenever required.

Cubase will come into play in recording my playing the electronic organ, and other sources like band sessions (basically the kits got to be mobile and I am not doing some one-off recordings). I know I can record straight from the organ to a CD recorder but I want some control over the sound enhancement and if necessary any balancing. Audio workstations such as the Yamaha AW16G is a nice idea but if I can help it I don't want another "box". Cubase is like several kits lumped into one and remains on the computer. :)

So, this is what I am thinking:

Hi-fi: get a cheapish set (surround AV, CD recorder and DVD recorder)

Electronic Organ recording or other on-location recording source (e.g. minidisc): decent sound card (Terratec?, Audigy Platinum?) / mic or line in + cubase + external disc writer*

*I quite fancy the dual format DVD writers (Sony 500, Pioneer A05) which also write in CD format.

The output from the organ is stereo (phono, quarter jack?) and not digital.

Does this sound like a sensible idea? I know I could also plug the audio out to the AV and record from the "hi-fi" DVD / CD recorder, but an external drive hooked to a laptop will give me more flexibility (it could go wherever with the laptop). But the AW16G (or others) may do the job much better then the Cubase on the laptop.

Budget - I don't want to spend a fortune, anything decent that works (and is reliable!) will be acceptable..

Thanks for any suggestions.

David
