solo violin mic placement?

recording solo violinist tonight!! Totally dont know where to start....

sound studio & good live room, Amek Einstein, Protools HD3, Atc mains & ns-10's, etc etc etc....

My idea so far is a stereo pair in front and just above, about 2ft away.
and one over the shoulder, directly above, about 1 ft away.

Iam more concerned with where to place the mics!! Any suggestions?? or any online guides on violin recording???
 
Nothing wrong with what you're looking to do... M/S room wouldn't hurt... Depends on what you're looking for.
 
I've tried both X-Y and Blumlein miking and finally decided I prefer X-Y placement well in front and about 30 degrees above.

One thing to be careful of the that many violinists move quite a bit so you coverage has to allow for this.
