Whats the best out of these three: Logic, Sonar, or Cubase? I have a chance at any one I want, which one should I go with?? By the way, when trying out Logic, at first the metronome was loud and clear, in a later session I hear couldn't it at all, even faintly. What was wrong?

Around here, you'll get arguments for all of them. I have tried all of them and IMO they are all pretty much equal in power, although I think cubase and SONAR are somewhat superior in midi. If I were to recommend one, it would be SONAR, just because I found it easier to use than the other two.

Cubase is obviously the best because that's what I use. :D

Sonny is right, though: they're all good. Most of the opinions people have about the differences in the programs are really about the interface and not the quality or performance.

Since you'll get good at using whatever interface you end up with, take a good close look at the specs, try the demos, and go with whichever one suits your fancy.

Here's my impressions- which are sure to be at least a little wrong:

Sonar: Probably the most MIDI oriented, though still handles audio just fine. Probably the most popular, too, as people start with cheaper cakewalk products and stay with the familiar interface.

Cubase: Jack of all trades, master of none. Does it all (to a point) but doesn't really shine in any one area. Potentially has the best VST plug and synth integration, but probably only slightly so. (Steinberg created the VST standard.)

Logic: Seems like the most uptown of them all- you can go all the way to dedicated hardware interfaces with it if you want. Most home users never will. I've heard that it is a complex program but quite powerful once you get it down.

Have fun exploring,
Chris

One thing to consider is that if you go with Sonar, you will want good WDM support for your soundcard. On the other hand, if you go for Logic or Cubase , you'll want the latest ASIO drivers.

That really depends on you, your needs, your skill level, and which program you can best interact with. ;)

You should pick up demo versions of all 3 programs. Then, through experimentation, find out which one is best for you.

peace......

i've heard that Sonar has a better low end then either too but who knows

Just my two cents, but when I was looking a couple of months ago, I was looking at both Cubase and Sonar. I went with Cubase for one reason and one reason only. You cannot specify file names for your wave files.

That is the only reason. I wanted to be able to look at the directory and know what each wave file was just by looking at the name.

I use Cubase 5.0, Logic Plat 4.8, and Sonar 1.0 (Not XL). I recommend either Logic or Cubase. I am partial to Logic because it offers more options in its stock configuration then the others (but with a bigger price tag). It offers MIDI control that I feel is only rivaled by Mark of the Unicorn (Mac). It has a better wave editor, and offers support for video formats (Big plus for us animators). It has a HIGHLY customizable user interface too.

Cubase is clearly the best.

I mean Sonar, obviously, by far the best.

What I meant was, Logic is the best.

By the way, Red is the best color.

I mean, Blue.
