OK I want to get into software synths,
but I need the basics.
Is a laptop a viable soulution for a portable setup? Does every thing play back like regular synth/sampler or is ther a lag from key stike to sound? if i use a laptop can i use another drive for the samples on a software sampler?

In other words HELP!

Reco, man I thought you were using a DAW setup with cubase. Now your on a laptop?? :)

I have used some of these software synth's with mediocre results. Gigasampler for one. Good program but latency is bad unless you have the optimal setup. But why built your setup AROUND a piece of software.

Guess my advice is to get a module.

Laptops are not the most expandable device. I suppose you could use one for recording but it would have to be custom built and would cost a fortune.

Not Cubase Cool Edit and Yes I do use a Daw.
But Im talking live, for samples and cool sounds on stage but if latency is a problem i dont want to use one on a laptop.

Heres a question.
If Im using say Giga Sampler on my daw how do I record the Giga onto cool edit on one machine? do i have to use midi sequencers or can i record real time, and yes I am getting a second pc because i like to have plenty of options, Im a putser.
