I found sonar 5 producer edition on ebay with a buy it now price of $99
Musicians friend sells it for $499. It says it's on dvd. Am I missing something here ? Is buying software from ebay a good idea ? I

It's not a legit copy.

If you are a student you (and depending on the software, studying the corresponding subject, ie Music) you can puchase the software at a discounted price. I haven't looked at this with Sonar (haven't needed to), I know that Microsoft do this with office..

It's not legal to resell the software, as stated in the EULA. And if the software is used (and I'm sure it goes for "cracked versions" too) you won't be able to register at Cakewalk.com, which means you won't be able to download the new updates or get support from Cakewalk.

I just searched eBay, and noticed the copy you are talking about (at least I think it's the one - "Buy It Now"). I would steer way clear of that or anything that seller is offering. I'm guessing these are all pirated copies for sale.

As an aside, reading through that copied and pasted text description was fun

"ask the seller a question"...ask if it's OK if you save some money on shipping and offer to pick it up in person. Betcha he says no...
