Would someone kindly recommend a software package, which will allow me to capture music from records or tapes, so that I can burn CD’s (audio & MP3) on my computer. I would like to record entire LP’s or tapes but be able to identify/select individual songs. I have a Dell 2.2Ghz Pentium 4 with 512M of RAM and a Audiophile 2496 interface card with a Technics Sl-1200MK2 turntable and a Teac X-700R reel-to-reel tape recorder. I don’t expect to do much editing and am primarily interested in recording my old LP’s/Tapes so that I can play them in my car, portable CD player or MP3 player. Thanks…

Almost any music editing software will do it, so you have plenty of choice, depends on your budget you can get one.
You mentioned that you don't expect much editing facility, but I'll tell you what, once you are able to get the tapes and LPs in wave or mp3 format, you'll absolutely think about getting some noise reduction done and amplitude levels boost etc. So when you get a software go for the good one, like cool edit pro (or) cakewalk product or some lite versions of the big boys.
