I am interested in recording my family singing Christmas carols and sending the results e-mail. I would like to mix the .wav files of our voices with midi files of the songs. What is the best way to do this? Most of the freeware mixers I've found don't handle midi. I have an Ensoniq VIVO 90 sound card and run windows 95.

Thanks

Well, I'm not quite sure how you do that... but, is that really what you are after? That would mean that the people receiving the e-mail would have to be set up for midi and audio etc. You could play the midi file and record it as a wav then mix it with the wav of your family singing. Then, when someone got the wav, it would contain singing and music. Sorry if this is not helpful.

rjt is right. You need to record the MIDI parts to audio before you can mix them together into a single file that can be sent to someone who doesn't have the same recording software as you have. I think practically any recording/sequencing program will do this. The makers of Band In A Box have package called Power Tracks:

and it's only $29. Might fill your needs just fine.

If you can get background Xmas music on a CD, and they are available, then, pick out the songs you want to do.

Next, get the CD music on some type of multi recorder; then, record your vocals.

Then, mix down to tape and send cassettes to you family/friends/enemies.

This is about the easiest way I know how to do what you want to do unless you want to sing without the music.

PS the music covers up many vocal miscues.

Enjoy and I hope this helps....

It would be much easier to send MP3's for e-mails. You could encode at a lesser than ideal sampling rate, have a relatively small MP3 file, and still all of your relatives would hear the tunes with good quality. Wave files would not be practical for e-mail.
