Hi there. I have made all my tracks in .wav but to post to a website on the net they want it in mp3.

Does any one know if this can be done on Windows Media Player or Nero Start Smart and if so, how?

If not are there any other free software packages that will do this and give reasonable quality?

I notice that many of the so-called "free" software packages are only "free" for a trial period or they only work for 60 % of the song until you have paid a fee.

Thanks for your time,

Phil.

Jet Audio converts to WMA. I know you asked for MP3, but I've found WMA to be all right. Plus, it's free.

itunes does this too.. just set your encoding to mp3 and select the file and convert to mp3.

I use cDex or the export function from Reaper. I like cDex better because it has more options for LAME, and also comes with other encoders.

this is the best free audio convertor.

CDex is fantastic for this, and it's free. The program is not resource hungry, is easy to use, and actually allows you to rip a sector from a disc if need be. Did you ever rip a song off a CD and it went a hair too long or short? Defining the sector is easy and can really sweeten a rip.

CDex allows conversion from .wav to .mp3 and back, with or without normalization and at any bitrate you wish up to 320kbps.

Get CDex here

Musicmatch will do it. Its what I end up using. It cost me $24 6 Years ago for lifetime upgrades. Funny after spending $600 on Sonar 6 Producer I still need that little $24 Utility. If you have Nero Premium ($80). It has tools in there you can use as well.

That's one thing about Sonar that bugs me. I have the Studio version, and my MP3 encoder just went out on me. I'm back to using Musicmatch too.
