When I play VSC with midi keyboard there still seems to be some sort of latency problem -- even after I play around with Buffersize and slider... Any advice?

Also is livesynthpro better sounding than VSC?

Thanks in advance.

Some soundcards won't let you set the latency so low that it can be used with softsynths, one example is the Soundblaster Live! or Audigy. What soundcard are you using?

If you get the latency down under 20 ms, that's good. If you get it under 10 ms, you're getting closer to great! I use 4.4 ms and I think that's good enough to even use Input Monitoring.

Try lowering the setting small steps at a time, and experiment with how low you can go without dropouts.

You have to re-run Wave profiler every time you make changes.

Livesynth is way better sounding than VSC -- or more properly, it has the potential of being better-sounding. It depends on the quality of the Sound Fonts you use for patches. If you used a realy bad sound set it would be worse; you could probably find a Sound Canvas-based Sound Font that might sound virtually identical to the VSC; or you could use some superior Sound Fonts and go far beyond the VSC's quality.

I have yet to find a spot for any VSC sounds in my projects. Pretty worthless plugin imo.

Actually I find the steel string guitar quite nice. It's also OK for certain percussion as well.

However, I am sure that Livesynth with sound fonts is much better in general (in fact I know it is, if Alchuck says it is :) ) I haven't gone for the upgrade yet, since my use of synths has been fairly limited. However, I am starting to get into them a bit more, and may need to take the plunge.

I couldn't dissagree more.

Have you tried the GS mode sounds? The GM sounds are pretty much worthless but the GS set has alot more quality and variety. I particularly love the "Shining Star" patch. Sounds like is came straight off of J.M. Jarre's "Revolutions" CD.

Click on the SETUP button in the VSC window and you can switch it to GS mode at the bottom of that screen.

GM stands for General MIDI. To tell you the truth, I can't remember what GS stands for. :D

It is basically GM expanded to have more sounds, etc. Its Roland's equivalent of Yamaha and their XG sound set.
