I just bought my fostex r8 back this week that I bought new 13 years ago and sold to a friend of mine. Its got less than 10 songs on it. And has sat on a shelf in a nice heated and airconditioned house for the last 10 years. and no smoking around it. Its mint and come with the rack ears and cable extension for the controler
It also comes with 5 rolls of ampex 457 that has never been opened. Im not to sure about that, I dont know if it will need to be baked or not when it comes out of the rapper.
Anyone have any ideas on that?

What happened is roughly this: I have always been after a good pattern based real-time midi sequencer. There are very few beasts like that, software or hardware.

But now, Ableton Live popped up. And it's software. And it's pretty good. I tried it out a bit, and liked it. Even more, I like the way it automatically syncs and can re-pitch samples to the beat. So, it looks like I will not only use it for MIDI sequencers, but for loops as well. But then, when you have both like a drum loop, and a bass loop, and a guitarloop running, you want different amounts of reverb and filtering on that...

So, do I use BOTH the internal mixer AND the external mixer I have for all my synths? I think not. No whay. And I don't like mixing with a mouse anyway. So, I need a soundcard with a whole bunch of outputs...

And if I have a soundcard with a lot of outputs and inputs... why bother with syncing all this to a multi-track tape recorder, when Ableton can record audio as well?

Yeah, yeah "it sounds better". Maybe I'll use the Fostex for mix down. Or replace it with a nice two-track. Or maybe I'll start hating Ableton when I get as far as actually using it properly. Well see.

It should do a good job for you, I have the delta 44 I use for a mix down input and for just messing with and it sounds pretty good and I havnt had one problem with it working. The m audio stuff seems to all be a pretty good bang for the buck. Unlike that RME crap
