So let's get down to the basics. How do I build my room?

Excellent, Hello HomeRecording.com I'd like to introduce myself; My name is Werecatz and I've been lurking your forums for the last 2 weeks reading things here and there, particularly focussed on Whitestrat's studio. But now it has come to this, posting my question/s.
A lot of posts in this forum are about specific things but the technical jargon and background behind them aren't particularly well explained, neither is studio building in it's entirety.
Sometime in the next 5-10 years I will be building a project studio, one perhaps capable of recording demo's for people ofc. But still a space for myself non the less. This is all part of my plan for when I get out of college I'll be building a tumbleweedhouses.com Enesti which is a very small house for all those wondering and right next to it I want to build my own freestanding studio, while I kind of like something professional looking I think in the end having one room and possibly a vocal booth would suit me best. I'm not looking to start up a company after all :p.
What I am looking for is not the gear that will go inside, I'm fairly well versed in gear for the moment ;). But I know the first thing you'll tell me, and it's exactly what I want to know, How do I build this room. It'll be a free standing structure dedicated for the studio, built from the ground up.

So here is what I ask of you to teach me:
Dimensions and ratios: I hear that square is bad, any particular shape very good then?
Soundproofing: or at least dampening, remembering it's a dedicated building from the ground up, what kind of things should I look into
Acoustic treatment: The room is more important than the gear right? Well lemme at it, what's a bass trap? what kind of reflections will I be dealing with and how do I stop them? Everything you know bro.
Layout: honestly idk where to put things
Vocal booth?: If I make one what kind of things do I need?
and then I guess wiring, ventilation and anything else you can think of.

Now I know this info is all over the place in the forums, I know it's probably very nubbish of me. But for the sakes of my sanity and perhaps for a thread with all the info you generally need I've made a new post.
Oh also; books, online resources, magazines those kinds of things. Ones that are must have reads would be lovely :)

Oh and btw. Thanks a bunch ;)
