Good stuff, but

you could bring the vocals up a little. The playing is nice, but your music is about the words.

Was this done on Tralfamador?
Anyway's it all sounds pretty nice. I don't have enough experience to critique you track's, but the song's all sound pretty good with passion passing thru the vocal's well.

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback guys. Mr. Recorder - No, the Traflamadorians were busy travelling through time, but Kilgore Trout mastered all the tracks for me.

My stuff is recorded very simply: an SHS mic, behrenger 1804x, and the old Cubasis VST program with a project card. I don't even have any monitors, just cans. I'm always looking for ways to improve on the sound though; so, your critiques are like gold to me. I've noticed alot of bass rattling when I listen to them in the truck, but I've got some new stuff in the works with a cardiod (hopefully).

Thanks again, for the feedback.

crossed tragedy......

I like the style. and will try my best to give you some helpful tricks.

to me it sound like you could experiment a little with some compression and panning.

by using a compressor your music will gather up the needed push when the words are soft. also the accoustic will come to life and hold back the low end abit.

try to pan the vocals a little to one side and the guitar to the other side. not too much, but just abit might add some flavor to the stereo image when recording a single guitar and a single vocal.

good job overall...

I can pan, but not sure about compression

Thanks again for the feedback!

I think I get the idea with the panning, and I'm kicking myself for not already considering that.

However, I don't know anything about compression... literally. Is that software or some equipment between the mic and the mixer? Is it built into the mixer? Is it a technique? Sorry for being a bit clueless, but it's touch and go with this recording stuff.

Listened to Star-crossed... I liked your lyric writing. Simple arrangement but nice.

The guitar is overpowering the vocal. Some compression (do a search on this site or maybe www.prorec.com and you'll probably find help) and some EQ cuts in the guits could certainly help.

ah
i think that it should be required by law to read that book...one of my faves of all time

If I liked John Mayer and Dave Matthews this would be my favorite damn song ever...unforunately...
however it kind of reminds me of good old james taylor(one of my faves) good quality...guitar has a little too much bass...what mic did you use?

Star Crossed Tragedy is the first song I listened to and wont be the last. This is a real good tune, you have an excellent voice
and your rhythm playing is smooth and solid. I'll be checking out the other ones soon. It's a nice change to hear acoustic music!

My mic...

Jake,

I'm currently using an SHS OM-450, which is just a replica of a Shure SM 57. It was about $10 cheaper than the Shure, and is comparable in sound, if you ask me. At the time, $10 was everything to me - a tank of gas to get me to Nashville and home again....

I really appreciate all this feedback. It's not everyday a simple soldier gets to hear such good things from all you fine musicians out there.

Listening to Phoenix From The Flame...very good song. Excellent vocal. I like the mellow-ness of the tune.

Nice arrangement...maybe could use just a tad of percussion (maybe some brushes or a tamborine...)

Nice job overall!
