So if I were to use pro-tools in a huge "pro-studio" what interface would I use?

Slowing becoming un-noob.
Anyone have any idea? I was thinking like 5 digi 002/003's. But otherwise I have no idea.

Please don't just be like "pro-tools sucks, use [fill in blank"

I'm just curious about pro-tools.

I most likely wouldn't go with HD, due to the outrageous pricing. Probably Pro-tools LE or something.

Thanks!

All this assuming I'll need to use about 24 mics.

Hopefully you'd be using their DSP systems, since Digi's native performance is not what most would consider "pro" but I digress

You would likely be using the HD192 I/O or the 96 or 96i setups

wow....nice desks there guys!!!..they look sick as.

the pics above are just control surfaces though...like pipeline said you still need the HD interfaces
one of these:

with these:
PTCoreHD1-large.jpg

or the many other combinations.

so how many tacks can they record at once?

it would depend if you wanted to mic the tacks all live at once, in which case it would be practically an infinite number of tacks, or if you needed to close mic each the tacks and isolate each to a separate track. the more relevant question would be "why?" :D

you can get up to 16 ins per interface...a maxed out HD3 system would have 6 interfaces, for up to 96 total inputs

i would do two 003s (daisy chained),two pres with adat (one for each 003), and two four channel pres (for the four extra line-ins on the interface) that should get u 32 simultaneous tracks of recording and u said u needed about 24 so that should do it. thats gonna be a lot of cash though and i hope u have a good computer to handle it.

I've got bad news for you guys: LE systems like the 002/003 can't be daisy chained or stacked. So if you want all those tracks you have to go with an HD setup.

If you were going to be using pro-tools in a "huge pro studio" or a studio attempting to appear as though it was a "huge pro studio" you would use pro-tools HD with apogee, mytek,or other high quality convertors.

If you want a decent home studio, I'd go with a 003 and a used apogee rosetta 800. that would give you 16 ins at a time. You could even add 1 more convertor of your choice and have 18 ins. If you need more than that, and you want pro tools, you'll have to go with HD.

There are all kinds of other programs that plenty of pro's use and love and get great sounds out of though.
