Bought it new, then tried it out a month later (big mistake) and it doesn't work.

Give someone $10 to fix it. :D

Naw, I'm pretty sure it's just some stupid little thing wrong with it. I'm sure someone who knows how they work can fix it pretty easily.

I doubt there's a website however for troubleshooting an sm57, sadly.

Have you done any kind of "beep" test (for lack of a better name) with a multimeter to see if a solder joint has come lose?

Continuity test...

From memory, you should be able to get a reading from pins 2 and 3 of something like 1000 ohm (that's a rough guess there)

There's only 3 parts to the SM/Beta 57/58:
Capsule
Transformer
Jack

the most likely failure there is the jack, and that's usually fixed easily with a bit of solder

IIRC, you can ship it to Shure, and they will ship back a new (or like new?) one for something like $40, if you can't get it running.

Where was it purchased? What is their return policy? I've returned mics to MF within their 45 day window that were not functioning properly.

Guitar Center about a year ago. I don't think they'll take it. I was actually thinking about buying a new one and switching them out and taking back the broken on saying it didn't work. Haha.

Oh, in your original post, you said only a month. I won't advise on the morality of your suggested remedy, but it would probably work.

No, in my original post I said I bought one new and then tried it out a month later. I never said when I bought it. :D

And yeah, that was mostly a joke, even though it would probably work. I'd rather just fix mine since like I said it' sprobably some loose wire or something.

I'd do the tape op mod on it and see if it becomes usable at that point.

toss the SM57 and get a Unidyne III version

Current SM57s are junk get a real one the ones that use to be made in the USA
a Unidyne III. Even better find a shure 545, cheaper and much better it uses the unidyne III capsule and sounds so much better then the current junk :D

I see this solving all of my problems. Thank you.
