The Yamaha NS-10's have quite the reputation (both + and -). I can't find any reference to this model anywhere. I'm trying to figure out if they were meant as "monitors" or not... They are a bit big for "bookshelf" (19" tall) and *heavy*.

Regardless, they are suprisingly clear and great for listening to acoustic recordings. I'm trying to find a nice rack mount amp that can power them @ 6ohms.

Hi I also have a pair of Yamaha NSX 30's - awesome speakers. I run them through a Harman Kardon amp that has both a 4 ohm switch and an 8 ohm switch, i had a similar question, but think i ended up running it through 4 ohm setting .... hope that helps. they are great speakers!

Any amp rated at 4 ohms will be fine as they will usually operate at 8 ohms as well, remembering that at 6 ohms a 4 ohm amp will produce a bit less power. I.E An amp rated at 100 watts at 4 ohms will produce about 70 watts at 8 ohms, or about 85 watts at 6 ohms (just roughly). Also amps that say 8 ohms min will run 6 ohms OK, in fact the speaker ohms changes all the time when the load varies, (louder / softer), the recommended ohms is just a starting point to get you in the ball park.

I have seen a pair of NS-30X's and I bet at the time they would have sounded good, I think there was also an NS-20 around as well. Still have my NS-10's in the studio.

Cheers
Alan.
