all up in yo grill!
I would say I'm happy to have them back but i'm happier knowing that it is one less bill hanging over my head. i think a couple of transistors and a diode were replaced. and now that i have them back....I'm not sure if i want them any more lol. oh yeah and samson's service sucks. the repair shop ended up giving up on them and finding another company that makes the same pieces it needed. they got the pieces in 2 days. samson took 4 weeks and still didnt get everything.

Damn disto, that's just sad. I'm happy so far with M-Audio's BX5's for the $$. And their customer service is the stuff legends are made off.

well i figure this crap can be avoided by buying passives and a power amp. so if something goes down then i can buy a new one of what ever died and be done with it and get it fixed when I'm not in a hurry to track a cd. I'm sure once i start recording again i could let this go but right now I'm thinking of selling these monitors and getting some wharfedales or something. or maybe i just need a drink.... have you ever had something that was good fixed because something went wrong and even though its back working 100%, you don't want it anymore? thats how i kinda feel

That's perfectly understandable. My judgment of your situation is that those monitors are POS. I mean, what if they break on you again? Do you even know that they are working as intended after all that?

If I had something break, I wouldn't want it fixed. I'd just want a refund, or a replacement if I really needed whatever it was.

I just replaced my Samsons with a pair of Mackie 624's (Still using the Samson Sub though) and what a friggin difference.

I spent Saturday night blasting most of my CD collection at volumes that I would never have been able to handle with the Samsons. The biggest issue I had with the Samsons was how harsh they could become at louder volumes. My ears would actually hurt after mixing on them for long periods.

Seriously if you can, I would replace them. I wish I had done it a looong time ago.

:)

Buy Wharefedale.

They have a full 5 year warranty with wonderful customer service and fast replacement. I've only had to get one monitor replaced for a cutomer and they shipped a new one out 2nd day - Thats service. You also can't buy a better sounding monitor for the money.

Can I get an Amen from all of the Wharfedale owners? :)

Finally, after having purchased my Wharfedales months ago, I'm breaking them in. Bought them and took forever to get my space together (enough) to set anything up - and I didn't want to set up the monitors in a dusty environment (In fact I used my Samson 65A's for test fitting the stands, etc. while I was in the latter stages of building). I'll probably pick up some Mackies down the road, but not now - bought too much stuff recently and the Wharfedales so far seem like they'll do just fine for my needs. And for the money it'd be tough to beat them.

So I guess this is one "Amen"!

LOL I'll get the wharfedales...its just going to take some time....gotta get some things fixed on the car but i think they would be a nice christmas present to myself. if not christmas then definitely when the income tax check comes in.

hey deepwater....how many watts can those passive diamondpro 8.2s take?

lol nah i want the passives and have the power amp seperate. plus dont the passives have the yellow cone or something? lol anyway I already made a call to a guy i know that wanted my monitors before this fiasco started. he seems like one of those people thats always looking for a deal by getting stuff second hand even if it'd be cheaper in the long run to buy it new.

They're good for 150 watts. I would do the actives personally

But no yellow cone. That would be the HIFI version.

dang....so what would you suggest? passives or actives? i kinda thought that yellow cone was cool...its all good though

I like actives better. The amps and crossovers are matched to the speakers and everything works smoothly and is flat.

If you can afford a decent amp, than I reccomend passive monitors. If not, than I reccomend actives.

Active advantages:
Matched amp and crossover
Takes less space
User doesn't have to worry about things like impedence, cabinet/amp matching etc...

Passive advantages
Doesn't come with a "matched amp and crossover"
Doesn't overheat as easily as actives
Tends to offer more headroom than active montiors
Allows user to upgrade
Repairs are typically easier, cheaper, and less frequent

i own a delta 44 soundcard. it has 4 ins and 4 outs what is the ideal way to connect the wharfedales into the card? any particular cables i should be looking at? thanks.

If the sound card has RCA in/outs use RCA cable if it has 1/4" use 1/4" cables. The Wharfedalea have RCA, 1/4", and XLR inputs so any is fine. Just use a good quality cable.

Disclaimer: If your cable run is over 15' then use a Balances 1/4" or XLR
