how do set up the monitors so that i can monitor and record at the same time, someone told me i couldnt plug the sound card outs straight into the monitors because i would get feedback if i try to monitor, so where do i plug in the monitors?

That link goes to the MF home page. What monitors do you have?

You will get feedback if you monitor sensitive mics thru your speakers, which could damage your speakers. Just make sure that "Monitor Mixer" is'nt checked in the M-Audio control panel. You will need a mixer and headphones or a headphone amp and headphones.

you can use your monitors to monitor mics if your mics are isolated from your monitors. otherwise, you'll get feedback and will be hearing the sound of the source along with the sound of the miced source thru your monitors. headphones give you isolation.

In more simple terms you can use your monitors plugged straight into the outs of your soundcard (assuming they are powered). This is fine and dandy for mixing/listening to mp3s or whatever you might do normally on your computer.
As stated by others your going to hit some serious feedback problems when you start trying to track. Unless of course the source you are recording is in a completely different room or well isolated.
So it really depends on the application.

well isolated is the key. even if your mics are in a different room, depending on sensitivity, you could still get feedback.
