I'm hoping a few of you have tried recording acoustic guitar with this mic. I saw the post using MP3, but haven't tried using MP3 yet (I will).

Are they fairly quiet?

Just a suggestion: come in *much* closer than you normally would -- there is no proximity effect, so you can practically touch the strings. Omnis take some experimenting; please let us know what sounded best to you.

Warning, I'm an amature with little experience.

I'll just say that it's usable on acoustic. I'm not disappointed at all. Maybe if it was a 100 dollar mic....but for $35, I've had a lot of fun with it so far, and am definately going to use it on some stuff.

If you're just holding out because you're afraid it won't work at all...don't worry. If you're expecting a miracle...well....good luck :)

What I like about the omni is,as Mark notes, you can get in real close without any proximity effect. My music room is not the ideal recording environment, with less than ideal acoustics. The omni lets me get in close without the boom and ,thanks to the good old inverse proportion law,the sound source pretty much masks the room tone. And like Slack noted, for $35 it is an amazing value (thanks again Harvey!).
