'Straightforward"

just recorded my band today

we were a few mic cables short of being able to record everything properly, the Floor tom was not miced, nor the Bass amp, and we used one mic for the mid and high tom.

tell me what you think of the snare though, i am having trouble with it at the moment.

P.S. this is a live recording in my living room

I gotta' be honest with ya on this; I could use a little more cymbals. I got me a fever, and the only prescription is more cymbal.

Crank those babies up a bit so I can hear them, and I think you may have a hit on your hands.

Don't know what kind of sound you're trying to retrieve... but I'd say loosen your bottom head just a bit, and either get more snares, or loosen them or something.. needs more "snare" (sometimes this can be achieved by loosening both the top head and the snares). As for the recording quality of the snare, it sounds to "upclose", for lack of a better word (I don't know the home-recording lingo) .. bring it to the back a bit, and turn it down just a tad. Someone else could probably offer you more advice.

Just wondering

Just wondering, is that a ludwig chrome over wood snare? Anyway, the snare doesn't sound bad it just sticks out too much. It seems to be the only thing in the lower mids. The guitars are really scooped and sceechy, if you added some 500 hz (or took your amps mid control off of 0) it would fill out that range and make the snare fit better. You could also use some high end on the kick.

That snare sounds like someone hitting a folding metal chair with a piece of licorice. My advice is to get rid of that POS and get a snare that actually sounds like a drum. If not you will be fighting that horrible tone on every recording that you make.

Those don't sound like real drums to me. Loops or samples, maybe, but not real drums.
