i'm not sure if this is in the right thread but it concerns cubase.

i've just recorded a band using cubase se and as i've come to mix the track i've noticed the snare isn't as good as i originally thought. so i'm thinking about trying to use some kind of sample to replace it.

how can i set up a good snare sample so that the original snare will trigger it. do i need to use any outboard gear? i've got an s3000xl sampler, behringer composer with gate. or can i do it all on cubase.

i know there are tools you can buy like drumagog, but i've no budget for them.

so can i do it in cubase using gates, compressors, side chains (not sure what i'm talking about here), or do i need to go down the outboard route?

any advice much appreciated

thanks

There is a way to do it in Cubase using the "hit points" feature. Something along the lines of using it to allocate each snare sample a Hit Point, then assigning a midi note to each hit point. You can then just load up a sample player and use your snare sample of choice.

Think it's a bit more complicated than that, but that's basically teh easiest - free-est way. There was an article on it in Sound on Sound a while ago. Try searching their website - I think it's www.soundonsound.com

hope that helps.

Phil.
