We're having a problem with recording the snare drum where the snare is rattling a lot when we do rolls on the toms...

Any ideas on what to do to solve this..?

We may end up pulling the snare off...

thanks!

try any of the following:

1. tighten the snares
2. muffle the resonant (bottom) head (although this will kill the tone)
3. ignore it - When you record it shouldn't be too noticeable, and if it is, then you definitely need to try option one or two.

4. Try retuning the snare and/or toms so their pitches are more different.
5. Buy some of this crap: Moongel

Here's a little trick. Take the two lugs on either sides at the end of the snare bed and loosen them quite a bit. Tighten the lugs that stretch the head under the snare bed to compensate for the lost pitch. Viola!!

Also, make sure the snare tuned to a pitch that is not relative or in tune with the toms. Remember the bottom head should be tighter than the batter. I crank mine.

Tune your toms in intervals of a a minor and perfect 4th, this will cause the rattle to stop. Also certain pitches of each drum will work well together.
