SMF template

I generally don't use Reaper for MIDI file editing/manipulation but I would like to simply load a MIDI file into Reaper and have it play, rather than going into each track and setting output devices and channels, etc. Is there any way to create a GM/SMF template that will just load and play a file---or at least set a global MIDI output device (like the MS Wavetable Synth)?
