i'm a one-man band recording in my basement. the best-sounding spot for my drums is about 30 ft away from my computer. i need some way to press record from 30 ft away, and the idea that came to mind first was a tiny midi keyboard. i'm looking for a little toy with 12 keys or so, and a standard midi-out port. i looked around a little and couldn't find anything less than $50. there has to be something cheaper than that... or is there an easier solution?

If the sequencer you're using supports MMC, see if you can find one of these in your area. They can be found for $35 or so.

And btw, what were intending to do with a midi keyboard anyway? Are you using Albeton Live that lets you map anything anywhere?

.

Go to your locar electronics store and buy a Logitech RF wireless keybaord. They range anywhere from $30 to $100+. I've been using one for 7 years and can easily have the the computer and RF receiver in a separate room with no issues.

my sequencer is cubase sx3, i looked at the midi remote options and you can assign transport functions (play, stop, record, etc) to any "note on" event, which is basically what i'm after.

ok, we have $30, anything lower? there has to be a cheap, dedicated, minimalistic remote control midi system out there

I just setup up a notebook and use Radmin kinda like PCA, that gives me the DAW at any computer that is handy. Also you could use a pocket PC with a similar program. That way you have more control and can actually use all the function on your DAW and software.
